Conditions On The Goldfields

Life in the Goldfields was hard. Miners worked for hours and hours with generally very little success. And if they did find gold there was always the risk of it being stolen by the other miners who weren't as successful. Hygiene was poor, and there were very little qualified doctors, dentists and nurses. Children in the Goldfields were very vulnerable to disease or even death because of their weaker immune systems. Life in the Goldfields was terrible, hygiene was poor and food was scarce but still people went in search for fortune.
