Slides Translator is a Google Slides Add-on that can translate from one language to another. It will automatically detect the language of the selected text and provide a translation in the selected language. This feature can support ESOL instruction, curriculum night presentations, foreign language activities, and "Shiloh Goes Global" informational night. Breakout EDU
The students are reading, collaborating, and problem solving in an effort to find media center orientation information and to "escape" the wrath of the evil Wizard Walfo to save Google!
Reaching Excellence Through Literacy
English Language Arts classes are checking out books during their whole class checkout. Whole class book checkout will take place throughout the entire school year.
How To Choose The "Just Right" Book
Ms. Bonaby is facilitating a "How To Choose The Just Right Book" lesson. The students and Ms. Bonaby discuss various strategies students can use to choose a book that best suits their reading preference. The overall goal is for students to be able to use the "5 Finger Rule" in an effort to find a book that is on grade level. At the same time, this lesson challenges the students to learn new vocabulary words and about new topics.
Volunteers are needed in the Media Center from 8:30 am to 8:45 am Monday through Friday. This is a great opportunity for students to get community volunteer hours for organizations like JLC, Jr. Beta, and SMS Student Council. For more information, please see Ms. Alexander.
The media center staff has tracked SMS's media center usage since August 5, 2019. According to our most recent media center data, the media center has serviced 5,187 patrons so far. Of those visits, 1,255 of our media center patrons have participated in media center lessons facilitated by Ms. Bonaby. These lessons include but are not limited to sixth grade orientation, science fair research, social studies research, and digital escape activities. In addition, 2,395 students have participated in "whole class book checkout" via their language arts classes.
