Gifted and Talented Education

Elementary School Innovation Clubs

Each elementary school will offer Innovation Clubs for GATE identified 3-5 graders. These clubs will be taught by a GATE certified teacher, or by a partner teacher from the Institute for Educational Advancement. Innovation Clubs offer opportunities for students to engage in an interest based pathway of study, collaborate on STEAM based projects, and develop critical and creative thinking through problem based learning. Your school will be reaching out to parents of students in grades 3-5 within the next month to offer the opportunity to participate in Innovation Club.

GATE Equity Focus Group

We are committed to equity in identifying and serving potential in our students. Through the new identification processes we have put into place in the last three years we have had improvement in this area.

To this end, we have convened a GATE Equity Focus Group to engage in professional learning and further adapt our processes to better serve the needs of gifted youth from all populations that we serve. For 2020-21, the group was made up of teachers and instructional coaches who are committed to this cause and dedicated to supporting systemic pedagogical changes for identifying and responding to potential.

As we continue to develop this work, we are looking for parents to lend their voice. Please email directly if you are interested.
