October Parent Update
A message from the principal
10/21/2019
Happy Monday Voss Parents,
Time sure does fly when you're having fun. The first 9 week's of school at Voss have been great thanks to a superstar group of students, teachers, and parents. Thank you for your support and for trusting us with your child's education.
While last week was short, it was busy busy. On Thursday morning we recognized students at our Outstanding Student Reception. Later in the day at our class meetings, our honor roll, perfect attendance, and captain's club recipients were celebrated. We also had our first SOAR enrichment day on Friday where students selected a 70 minute session to attend. They had many options to choose from including careers, motivational speakers, and various topics of interest and hobbies. I enjoyed my time hiking with our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that selected it as their activity.
As a part of our grade level class meetings, we review Glow and Grow areas. Things that our students are doing exceptionally well collectively include their engagement in all classes and extracurricular activities, getting to class on time, very low discipline incidents, and their overall positive attitudes and approach to school. We had many students receive perfect attendance and honor roll and look forward to maintaining that high number this new quarter. Areas of growth shared with students are using their Chromebooks responsibly, blacktop and common area/flexible learning space expectations, cafeteria behavior, and their use of lockers as many do not use them. We also reminded students about See Something, Say Something and asked them to reach out to a parent, teacher, counselor, or administrator if they saw something suspicions or concerning to them.
The second 9 weeks will bring great academic challenges and we know our students will rise to the task. Curriculum units are progressing in content as well as in their rigor across all classes. On December 17th, 18th, and 19th we will be having our semester exams. Please note that all students must be present those days and test cannot be taken early for absences. For any absences on those days, arrangements will need to be made to take the tests after the holidays during our in-service day/student holiday.
If you have any concerns or questions about a particular class, or simply want some feedback on the first 10 weeks of school, I encourage you to schedule a conference with your teachers. There are many resources at Voss we want to make sure each student gets what they need to be successful.
Below are just a few additional updates, dates, and other fun and special happenings at Voss. Thank you again for all of your support. Have a great week.
