Welcome to Valley Park Elementary (VPE). We hope this newsletter helps keep you informed as you prepare for your child's learning journey at VPE, which is in the district's Blue Valley North feeder. This newsletter includes important information regarding registration for the new school year, school supplies, and PickUp Patrol, our dismissal system used at VPE.

Registration Information

To begin the registration process for the 2032-24 school year, go to www.bluevalleyk12.org/registration and click New Student Registration in the Useful Links. Families new to Blue Valley will be asked to create an online parent account. Online registration will take approximately 20 minutes to complete, and it is an essential step in getting your student started with kindergarten!
To make Blue Valley’s Online Registration process smooth and convenient, please have the following information available:
- Student proof of identity (birth certificate, passport, or VISA)
- Emergency contact name(s) and phone number(s)
- Doctor, dentist, and preferred hospital contact info
- Immunization record and health assessment (physical)
- Proof of residency (purchase contract, lease, or current utility bill)
- Custodial documentation (if applicable)
- Previous school records and contact info
- IEP or 504 Plan (if applicable)
Tip: As soon as your child’s registration is complete, you will receive all-school communication items that will help welcome you and your family into the school community.
The VPE office will reopen on Monday, July 24th if you need assistance with registration.

Meet and Greet (Monday, August 14, 2023)
Kindergarten Orientation (Wednesday, August 16, 2023)
We look forward to welcoming your family to Kindergarten Orientation Day on Aug. 16. Our kindergarten teachers are excited to meet with families and students in small groups throughout the day.

During the orientation, you and your child will:
Become familiar with classroom routines and expectations
Put away school supplies
Get to know new friends and families
Take pictures
Calm any kindergarten fears or anxieties (for students and parents)
Important reminders
No bus service or lunch provided for kindergarten students on Aug. 16.
Aug. 17 will be the first full day of school for kindergarten students.
Bring a government-issued ID for the buzz-in entry system. All visitors, including families, are asked to use the outside intercom and security camera to show their ID and share the purpose of their visit before being "buzzed in." Once inside, adults will be given a visitor badge to wear while in the school.

First Full Day of School for Kindergarten (Thursday, August 17, 2023)
Bus Transportation
Durham School Service (bus transportation company) is separate from the Blue Valley School District.
If you desire to have your student use the bus for transportation, you need to go through the bus company Durham School Services to register your student for the bus.
You can also register for bus alerts on the website once you learn your student's bus route. Durham communicates through email about pick-up and drop-off times and locations.
Kindergarten Bus Registration
Registration is now open.
A student ID number is required to register.
Register online or print and return the paper form.
Registration must be completed by July 21, 2023, to be guaranteed a bus on the first school day. Online registration closes on July 21, 2023.
If you live OVER 2.5 miles from school, your student’s bus ride is free.
A bus tracker is available to watch your bus move through the route.
Textcaster sign-up is available to receive text alerts regarding your student’s bus, delays, changes, etc.

Y-Care (YMCA)
Y-Care is before and after school care that is offered by the YMCA at Valley Park Elementary. It is a separate entity from the school district. It is available before school starting at 7 AM, and students must be picked up by 6 PM. You must sign up and register prior to school starting. You can sign up here.
