Peterson's Parent Connection
CIS Parent Connection 11/5/21
GREAT Week!
I hope this communication finds you well!!
HUGE thank YOU to our community for supporting the levy referendum!! Strong communities have strong schools and our community turned out with strong support for our schools. We are grateful for their support of our students and our schools.
In case you wanted to know:
- With 63% and 62% voter support on Questions 1 and 2, the Cambridge-Isanti Schools referendum was approved. A majority of voters supported the issue at each polling location.
- The referendum will help us:
Support student learning
Hire and retain high quality teachers
Reduce class sizes
Enhance vocational-technical career classes
Increase student opportunities to earn college credits
The funds approved will be collected on taxes payable in 2022 and will be applied to the 2022-2023 school district budget. So, we will not see the impact of the funding until next school year. Staffing for next school year traditionally begins in the spring and at that time we will be able to lower class sizes.
One question we are hearing often is whether we have enough open classrooms to hire more teachers and lower class sizes? Yes, we have some vacant classrooms from previous layoffs and we have room to increase the number of classrooms or sections in various grade levels.
There will be much to sort out over the next several months and years as we plan for the future, but we are committed to remaining accountable to our community and working responsibly within our means to support our students.
*Please take note of the repeated winter gear information. I know this weekend's weather is forecasted to be very nice, but after that, the highs are mostly in the 30s and 40s.

CPS Pick Up Change - small impact on CIS
The CPS Team, working to make student pick-up safer for students and faster for parents, will start Monday, November 8. The impact doesn't impact CIS much, but here are the few exceptions:
- CIS students who have CPS siblings and are getting picked up, will be brought to the CPS gymnasium to connect with their sibling before heading out to meet their family.
- CIS students who have CPS siblings and meet them to walk home will also be brought to the CPS gymnasium to connect with sibling before heading home.
Nurse's Notes - Kim Hodson
The health office has been buzzing like a busy little beehive. Hearing and vision screening was done late September/early October and our students did great. With help from the Lions Club our students had vision screening completed with the use of a Spot Vision Screener which is more accurate at finding any vision issues. If your child had any detection of a vision issue you will receive a referral letter from the health office. If students did not pass the initial hearing screening a re screen will be done in November with referral letters to follow for those needing further follow up.
I would like to express my personal gratitude and just how proud I am of CIS students. As I helped supervise the cafeteria during lunch, I watched Ms. Hagemeister, Ms. Adams, and Ms. Anderson’s classes all foam in (hand sanitizer) as they entered the cafeteria. Students have been working hard at proper hand hygiene to maintain health and safety for all at CIS. Way to go BLUEJACKETS!
Elementary Recess Gear (repeat)
Weather/Appropriate Dress Reminder
- PLEASE LABEL YOUR CHILD'S ITEMS (we have many items that get misplaced and are never able to find the owner....a name somewhere on the inside would be great)
- recess happens everyday UNLESS the temperature is below zero and/or the wind-chill is below 10 degrees
- students MUST have a warm coat, something covering their head/ears/hands
- when snow is on the ground students are encouraged to have boots and snow pants
- we don't have staff to allow students to remain inside
Please let me know if you have any questions or need support in making this happen - stay warm!
Welcome Ms. Hensley (Art) - November 8 (repeated)
