Bowman News
2nd Edition
Friday, September 6, 2019
Last year, under the direction of PE teacher, Ms. Scheer, along with a group of staff volunteers,
Bowman offered 4th and 5th grade students the opportunity to join the “100 Mile Club”. The goal of 100 Mile Club is to provide children with the opportunity to run 100 miles over the course of a school year. All running is supervised, takes place on our campus and is done before or after school. Parents/Guardians are responsible for getting students to school or arranging for them to stay after. When the weather impacts the running (rain, temperature or icy conditions), runners WALK the halls of Bowman.
This year, our plan is to expand the program and offer 100 Mile Club participation at all grade levels. The following schedule reflects who will run when:
Students in grades K-5 may run on Monday and Wednesday mornings - 8-8:30AM.
Students in grades 4th & 5th may run on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons - 3:20-3:50PM.
In order to help us accommodate more students, we are looking for parent/caregiver volunteers. Anyone interested in learning about becoming a volunteer “coach” is invited to attend a 100 Mile Club meeting on September 17th at 8:15AM.

CHANGES in DISMISSAL - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Please note that changes in dismissal should be for emergency or unavoidable situations only! It is very difficult for our staff and also our students when their schedule is changed each day unexpectedly. We would appreciate your cooperation in not changing your child’s dismissal unless absolutely necessary.

Big Backyard is a district-wide environmental education program that enriches the elementary school science curriculum through nature walks. The walks are designed to introduce children to many aspects of the natural world while also enhancing skills of scientific inquiry such as question formulation, observation, and deduction. Each class will go out on 1 to 3 nature walks during the school year. Classes explore the fields, woods, and wetland habitats surrounding the school and walks are led by trained parent/caregiver volunteers who follow carefully prepared curriculum guides. The orientation will be held on September 17th & 18th. Please see the following flyer for more information: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h1JzSxudVh_XE4a55ArwcnyZzucQK2b8f__rvcdOdl4/edit
