Hello Crossroads Families

Dear Crossroads Parents,

Hello! We have had a very successful start to our new year. When I walk around the building, I feel a great vibe. I hope your children feel the same. They love to joke with me about our new “joke of the day” from the morning announcements.

In the first month of school, we are really focusing in on 20 specific expectations we’d like our students to have. A few examples so far are:

  • Make eye contact when someone is speaking.

  • Congratulate the winner when someone does something well. If you win, do not brag; if you lose, do not show anger.

  • Always say thank you when given something.

We’ve already noticed a difference. Mrs. McConnaughhay had this to say:

I just wanted to say that the daily expectations have been GREAT for my kiddos! It's really making our classroom and school a more positive place. My class is doing a great job at celebrating one another (without reminders for me). Any time someone gets picked for something (ex. mystery shopper in the library, classroom reward, etc) they cheer for the person instead of the usual groan that it wasn't them who got picked. They are saying "Yes Mrs. McConnaughhay" and in general trying to show better manners. Woohoo!

We hope you have noticed a difference too! Be sure to ask your children about these expectations.

I really appreciate the opportunity to serve everyone involved with Crossroads. I am very fortunate to share each day with you all!

Have a great September!

Shout Out From Mrs. Henson

Hello Crossroads Families!

Wow! We've had a fabulous start to the school year!!!

  • We welcomed nearly 100 Kindergartners!
  • We have nearly 40 new faces in 1st-6th grade!
  • We've seen lots of smiling faces, and received lots of hugs and high fives!

I've been so proud to see so many of our students showing Corgi Pride. Students are arriving to school on time and ready to learn! We've seen older students escorting their younger siblings to their new rooms, and we've watched our returning Corgis helping our new students in the cafeteria and inviting them to play on the playground! We've loved seeing our students modeling Respect, Responsibility, and Caring as they return to school!!

I appreciate the opportunity to serve the students, their families and our staff here at Crossroads, and I am grateful that I can spend each day with all of you. Crossroads is a special place and I'm going to work to make this year the best year yet!!

Take care -

Mrs. Kristen Henson

Arrival: Student Drop-Off by Car

Parents, please help as much as you can with a few things in the car line at arrival:

  • Please stay off of your phone
  • Please stay in your car
  • Please have your children ready to go
  • Please pull forward as far as possible

If you do need to get out of the vehicle, please park in the lot and walk your child to the crosswalk.

We appreciate your help to make the car line as smooth and efficient as possible.

Thank you!

Mr. Fay

Progress Report Change

We are committed to working with you as partners in your child's learning. Throughout the school year, we will be updating you on your child's progress through teacher communication (i.e., phone, email, and in person), whether it be to address concerns or share celebrations regarding their progress. In the past, students in grades K-2 received progress reports at midquarter and students in grades 3-5 received weekly grade reports via email. Weekly grade reports for students in grades 3-6 will continue this year, however, Progress Reports will no longer be sent home to students in grades K-2. Based on feedback, it became clear that the progress reports were often repetitive because teachers are communicating with parents and families on a regular basis about individual student progress throughout the quarter and we want to encourage continued on-going communication rather than isolated communication at the midquarter. Please never hesitate to contact your child's teacher if you have any concerns or questions during the school year.

District Boundary Update

The District Boundary Committee has been working to develop a draft of redistricting scenarios. Use this link to access the draft scenarios and see the dates for the September Community Forums.

Please Join Us in Welcoming Tina Meyer

Hello!

I am Tina Meyer, and I'm really excited to be at Crossroads this year as your School Support Interventionist. This is a new position for our district, and I am ecstatic to be able to push into classrooms and give teachers and students extra love and support they may need. Before I began this position, I was a classroom teacher (3rd and 4th) for 13 years where I loved the relationships I formed with families and students, and I look forward to building strong relationships here at Crossroads as well.

Personally, I have three children (7, 4, and1) and an amazing husband. I have learned a lot from my own children on being more patient and how different each child can be, even when having the same parents! I hope to use this knowledge to not only make me a better teacher, but also to be able to support your children. I have already felt at home at Crossroads and love every minute I am getting to spend with your kids. I am proud to be a Corgi!

PTA Update
