Robotics Team Seeks New Students
As we kickoff the 2018-19 school year, the Florence One Schools robotics team is gearing up as well. The team is known as the FIRST Technomancers 1758 team--Where Metal meets Magic. During the fall semester, the team meets each Monday night from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at the Florence Career Center. This team is open to all high school students (Grades 9-12) in Florence One Schools. This award-winning team is learning simple machines, wiring, welding, and programming while still finding time to reach out in the community by showcasing last year’s robot at the South Carolina Pecan Festival.
In January, the Technomancers will kick-off build season with a meeting to find out what tasks this year’s robot must complete. The team will then have six weeks to completely build, program, and test a robot from scratch. This part of the season is intense as the team meets six to seven days per week during this period. At the end of February, the Technomancers will travel to Myrtle Beach to compete against other FIRST robotics teams from around the United States. Persons interested in learning more about the team should contact Laura Taylor at LTaylor@f1s.org.
