Referral Requests for Gifted and Talented Testing
Referral requests are now open for Conroe Independent School District Gifted and Talented program. Although the testing will not take place until late January, referral requests are accepted at this time. Referral requests can be made by the parents and/or campus staff. If you are interested in referring your child, you may want to discuss this with your child’s teacher.
Referrals will be accepted from October 2- December 15, 2023. The referral form is located below. You can also find the referral form and other GT information on the CISD GT homepage. Please return to Lisa Lackey at llackey@conroeisd.net when complete.
Nurse Kendall's Update
When your child is ill, please contact the school to let them know he or she won’t be attending that day. It is important to remember that schools must exclude students with certain illnesses for periods of time as identified in state rules. For example, if your child has a fever over 100 degrees, he or she must stay out of school until they are fever free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
In addition, students with diarrheal illnesses must stay home until he/she is diarrhea free without diarrhea-suppressing medications for at least 24 hours. Illness at school is evaluated by the health service staff in the clinic area. A child who demonstrates the following symptoms should be sent home from school.
Fever of 100 degrees or more.
Suspected contagious condition or disease.
Vomiting (from illness, not from other factors) or diarrhea (3 or more episodes)
Severe stomach ache, headache, or earache.
A child who is too ill to function in the classroom.
Our school will do spinal screenings on November 8, 9, 10, 2023. State law requires that schools must screen students for abnormal spinal curvature in accordance with the following schedule:
- Girls will be screened two times, once at age 10 (or fall semester of grade 5) and again at age 12 (or fall semester of grade 7).
- Trained screeners (the nurses) will check your child for signs of spinal problems like scoliosis. Catching a spinal problem early can make the treatment much easier. Not treating spinal problems can lead to serious health problems. The screening is simple. Screeners will look at your child’s back while he or she stands and bends forward. Your child will NOT be asked to remove her shirt. The screening will take place during PE in a separate area. Students will NOT have to stand in front of everyone for the screening.
- The school will send you a letter if your child does not pass the screening with recommendations to follow up with a doctor. This screening is not a medical exam. Your child still needs to see a doctor for checkups.

Our fundraiser has started! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your student’s videos. The videos are so creative and fun this year, thank you for your help! We are celebrating students who participate, even if they don’t get a donation. Participation is key! We have student celebrations for making their videos, and sharing! Their goal by Sunday night is to have shared their pitch video 5 times. 🙂 We will send email updates as the fundraiser continues.
Now is the perfect time to start getting together your student’s FORMAL ATTIRE for their concert. The attire for our formal concert is a long sleeved white button down shirt with collar, black dress pants, black dress shoes (and black dress socks if applicable.) Thank you for working with us to make sure your student has what they need for their concert.
Our winter concerts are approaching! Our formal evening concert is on Wednesday, December 13th at Collins Intermediate. Arrival times and concert times will be shared soon. If you are ever curious about dates for the year, you can always check the back of your child’s practice record.
Orchestra
We are moving right along with preparations for winter concerts. We have a full rehearsal on Tuesday December 5th during school hours in which our cello/basses need to bring their home instrument. Our formal evening concert is on Wednesday, December 6th at Collins Intermediate. Now is a good time to start getting the formal uniform ready for that performance. Attire is black slacks/skirts(floor length), button up white shirt/blouse, and black dress shoes.
Art
In Mr. Hunt’s art class, we are wrapping up our sculpture unit by putting the finishing details on our sculptures and painting them. These wearable pieces of art are almost ready to take home!
In Mrs. Williams’s art class, we are learning about Wassily Kandinsky and his study of circles and weaving our looms with an over under technique.
Choir
The Collins Cobra Choir had a stellar performance this past Monday at the College Park Feeder Concert. Your students did a wonderful job representing Collins!
Looking ahead, our Winter Concert is Tuesday, December 12th in the Collins Cafeteria, and our holiday party will be the following Thursday during our regular 4-5PM rehearsal time. CISD Intermediate Honor Choir auditions are coming up in January. The Honor Choir is for 6th grade students only who are willing to go above and beyond to be a part of a select group of singers from all over the district. If your student is interested, please read the information in the form linked below. Please do not sign up unless you can commit to the expectations including the mandatory rehearsals and the concert in March.
