WANTED GANGSTER: Baby Face Nelson
September 1, 1934
Notorious Bank Robber
Lester Joseph Gillis, also known as Baby Face Nelson, began his criminal actions at the young age of 13 when he was caught stealing in 1922. He was then sentenced to St. Charles School for Boys. As time went on, he was in and out of juvenile facilities. Two years ago after robbing a bank here in Chicago, he graduated into an adult prison. He was sentenced to a year in prison and when he was being transported, he broke away from custody. While he was out, he then robbed another bank. He eventually ended up in Sausalito, California where he met his partner John Paul Chase.
Murderer
Nelson joined a legendary criminal, John Dillinger, who recently just started a gang. He was almost caught when he was hiding out with the gang, but he shot his way out of the situation. As it turns out, an FBI agent was killed in the process. He was with Dillinger and Homer Van Meter during the June robbery of the Merchants National Bank in South Bend, Indiana. This resulted in the murder of a police officer. On July 22, Dillinger was ambushed and killed by FBI agents outside the Biograph Theater in Lincoln Park in Chicago.
