Outstanding Students

Our Outstanding Students program recognizes students who go above and beyond to make our school a great place. Teachers choose one student from each grade level who deserves recognition. The students who are chosen receive a Sonic drink of their choice, get their name on the marquee, and are recognized in the VAMS newsletter. We would like to congratulate the following students for making our school a great place to be:

Sofia Westmoreland - 5th Grade

Josue Paniagua - 6th Grade

Kaden Reynolds - 7th Grade

Drelin Davis - 8th Grade

Way to go! You make us proud!

Happy Thanksgiving

As we approach Thanksgiving and reflect on all that we are thankful for, the staff at VAMS send a heartfelt thanks to the students, parents, and community for all you do! We are blessed to work with such an awesome group of students, supportive parents, and an outstanding community. It is our collaborative work that makes VAMS a special place to be! We hope you enjoy your time with your family and focus on the things we are most thankful for. Enjoy your break and Happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas Angel Coin Drive

Student Council is extending the Christmas Angel Coin Drive until Friday, December 4th. This is a wonderful opportunity to help VAISD students and families with Christmas needs. Check the cushions of your couch, under the seat of your car, or the bottom of your purse. The grade level that raises the most money will receive an ice cream party. Thank you for helping us make Christmas a special time for some of our VAMS families!

College Day

College Day will be on Thursday, December 10. On this day, we will celebrate different universities and colleges. During this time, our 8th graders will learn about things they will encounter at the high school (GPA, SAT test, ACT test, graduation endorsements, scholarship opportunities, and much more), and in college.

On College Day, students are to wear college attire, including a college hat if they would like. Please ensure that your child does not wear something that would be disruptive to our learning environment. We look forward to this being a fun time and for the students to learn more about the possibilities and opportunities that lie before them!

7th Grade Rap

Mrs. Schroeder's 7th graders worked hard to create rap videos about punctuation. They came up with lots of great ideas! We have quite a few stars on our campus. Click on the video below to enjoy a few of our talented rappers...

Hour Of Code

The Hour of Code is Coming!

Van Alstyne High school room 305

4:00 – 5:00 pm

Dear Parents,

We live in a world surrounded by technology. And we know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. But only a tiny fraction of us are learning computer science, and less students are studying it than a decade ago.

That’s why our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13). More than 100 million students worldwide have already tried an Hour of Code.

Our Hour of Code is a statement that Van Alstyne ISD is ready to teach these

foundational 21st century skills. To continue bringing programming activities to your students, we want to make our Hour of Code event huge. I encourage you to volunteer, reach out to local media, share the news on social media channels and consider hosting additional Hour of Code events in the community.

See for details, and help spread the word.

We are fortunate to have students who take care of our recycling. As of this week, our students have collected 52 lbs of aluminum to recycle. WOW!! We have also recycled approximately 7488 gallons of recycled papers, water bottles, newspapers, and packaging materials in the last 13 weeks! Our students ROCK!
