Requirements to be the President

  • Must be 35 years of age
  • Must be born an American Citizen
  • Must have lived in the US for 14 years

Positions of the President

  • Chief Executive
  • Chief Diplomat
  • Party Leader
  • Economic Leader
  • Head of State
  • Legislative Leader
  • Commander in Chief

Chief Executive

  • President is in charge of all fifteen cabinet departments
  • Has the power to make an executive order, which is a rule or command that has the force of a law with out congressional approval
  • EX: President Roosevelt sent all Japanese Americans to interment camps

Chief Diplomat

  • The president directs foreign policy
  • Can make an Executive Agreement which are agreements with foreign leaders that are also not approved by congress these are kind of like treaties but treaties have to be approved by congress

Party Leader

  • The President is viewed as a leader of his or her party
  • Have the power to select the National Chairperson

Economic Leader

  • The President deals with several economic problems such as unemployment rates, inflation, and high taxes
  • The president also plans the federal governments budget every year

  • Ceremonial role
  • The President represents the USA at ceremonies and events
  • They are also a living symbol of the United States

  • President must sign bill into law this is the last step in the process of a bill becoming a law
  • The President also creates an agenda for the legislative program and he addresses it in the State of Union Address

  • In charge of the army, navy, air force, marines, and coast guard.
  • The president is the only one who can order american troops into battle

  • Salary: 400,000 a year
  • The president gets extra money for expense and travel
  • Gets access to Camp David
  • Access to lots of cars, airplanes and helicopters
