Happy New Year!
It's 2014 and the beginning of our second semester! In the spirit of new beginnings, I am asking all of my students to think of what they would wish for 2014. Together, we will create a Wall of Good Wishes (virtually, of course!) using a website called Padlet. When the wall is complete, we will share it with you! This week, we will get back into Reading Plus. Several of our students have tested out of Reading Plus, successfully completing level M! These students will begin working on research projects, writing projects, and literature groups. I will meet with them to work out the details. Please remind your child to work on Reading Plus at home. Click on your class to write on your class wall.

Understanding the Standards...
Common Core Standards: CCSS.ELA-Literacy.RST.6-8.8
When we read, it is critical to the understanding of the text that we are able to pick out facts from a selected text, or recognize statements of speculation, inference, or reason. In this excellent resource from McGraw Hill Education, students will learn exactly what this standard means in practical terms.
