Welcome to a New School Year!

Antelope High School Parent Newsletter

Welcome Back to another School Year!!!

As this school year gets underway, I want to take a moment and welcome you to Antelope High School. My name is Mr. Guzman and this is my 2nd year as the Antelope High School principal. Whether you are a returning Titan parent or a new parent to our school, I want to personally thank you for entrusting us with your children. At Antelope, we want every student to succeed and to leave our school with the skills necessary to pursue multiple paths.Since the school opened in 2008, our four guiding principles have remained constant: Scholarship, Leadership, Partnership and Cultural Awareness. This school was founded on those four pillars and we still want to make sure our students experience and manifest these qualities as they walk our hallways and eventually walk across the graduation stage come May.

I ask you to continue to partner with us so together we can work towards making sure your child finds a sense of place here at Antelope. One of the most important factors for student success is making sure students find connection at their school, making sure they find their fit. This can mean many things for our diverse student body. We now offer a Society of Women Engineers club for female students interested in pursing an engineering pathway and degree; we also established a Best Buddies chapter and club to help provide peer friendships to students with disabilities; the list really goes on. There is a place for your student at Antelope. Please feel free to reach out to any of our staff or myself if you have questions or want more information about opportunities for your students.

Most importantly, our school is all about building and cultivating positive relationships with students, staff and community. Our parents and community are an essential part of our school and this year we want to make sure you feel included and informed about Antelope High School. We will be providing opportunities for you to participate in our school whether it be Site Council, volunteering or attending parent forums to provide feedback to us on how we can continue to get better. We also are going to work on our communication with our community through Instagram, our website and other platforms, so you have up to date information that is easily accessible.

I look forward to partnering with you this year!

Tino Guzman

Big picture

Performing Arts Center Almost Completed!

If you have driven by the school or been to our school lately, you will most certainly see a building that stands out above all: our new Antelope High School Performing Arts Center! The work is near completion and it looks wonderful both inside and outside. We are expecting an opening fall (Late August or September), so please stay tuned for details on the grand opening and any other updates on performances!!

Back to School Night August 15th!!!

As the school year starts, it is time again to come visit your child's classes and meet their teachers and learn about their classes. This is an opportunity to learn how we can help support you and your students this school year. Back to School Night officially begins at 6:30 in your child's 1st period class. If you are currently a parent of a student enrolled in an AP course, there is also an AP preview night for families at 5:30 in the library. During this time, you can learn from teachers all about our AP program and its benefits for your children!

Visit our online store for Titan Gear!

If you want to continue to represent Antelope High School, here is a link to our online store where you can get apparel. We are going to be updating it with even more updated clothing and apparel, so continue to check back!

Counseling Changes this Year

You should have received a district email regarding some shifts in the way we provide counseling services to our students.Beginning this school year, we will be switching to a model where every counselor has equivalent student caseloads, including the number of English learners and students with disabilities. Making this move towards better equity for all students means that some students may see a change in their counselor assignments when they return to school this year.

As we move forward with our continued care for all our students, our counselors are going to continue to work in concert with each other to make sure those relationships are still unaffected. We will continue to support our students, especially our seniors who might have some anxiety due to college admissions. Our workshops for college letters are group focused and that won't change; seniors will get the same services and we will make sure to provide the continuity of care they have received their past three years moving into this upcoming year. Our goal for counseling services remains unaffected through this change: taking care of every kid, no matter which counselor they are assigned.

If you have further questions, feel free to contact Assistant Principal Lindsey Parker at lparker@rjuhsd.us or Principal Tino Guzman at fguzman@rjuhsd.us.

Some New Traffic Features

Traffic safety continues to be a concern at Antelope High School and over the summer the work continued on a few important items. One of our main crosswalks at Shell Beach and Titan Drive was moved to a better location (directly across the street from its previous location) in order to better allow safer foot travel for our students crossing Titan Drive to our campus. This relocation will allow all of the pedestrian foot travel in the morning to be much safer and in alignment with our school crosswalks and walking paths. Additionally, the county has striped Titan Drive to better divide the two lanes and has also installed yellow barrier blocks to help curb illegal u-turns on Titan Drive into our bus drop off area. Please help communicate with your children the importance of paying attention while crossing streets and while driving. If you have any more concerns or if you would like to be a part of our site safety team, please contact me and I will make sure to find a place where you can provide feedback to continue to help make our school safe.

Chromebook Insurance

We are excited that every student at Antelope High School now will be provided a Chromebook for their classes. This will help them gain more technological literacy skills as well as continue to help prepare them college and career. As we all know, accidents happen when technology gets in our hands! I am a prime example of this as I accidentally washed my Apple Earbuds in the washer!

If you would like to help safeguard against Chromebook mishaps and accidents, please purchase a yearly warranty for your child's Chromebook. The cost is 30.00 dollars. If you would like to purchase this warranty, please go online and go to page three for the Chromebook protection plan. Once you fill this out, either you or your student can go to student services (Mrs. Jenny Carroll) on campus and turn this form in with a check or cash. If you decide to purchase online, please click here and you can create an account and do it all online on the Titan Online Store.
