La Mesa Update

One more week until Spring Break. Please talk with your child about the importance of staying focused. The week before break is always a challenge as everyone is ready for some rest and relaxation.

Our annual Open House event will be on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 from 6:00 - 7:30 PM.

This is a great opportunity to visit your child's classroom and our school, as well as interact with La Mesa staff and families. Come see a showcase of some of the activities, projects, displays, etc. your child has worked on this year.

Don't forget, Tuesday, March 29th, 2022 is also a Minimum Day with dismissal at 12:45 PM.

It may be hard to believe but Summer School registration is active. For those looking to take an enrichment course or to make up credits, please follow the link to our District's Summer School website to check out all of the information and class offerings. Summer School will run July 1st - July 29th this year. If you have any questions about summer school, please reach out to your child's counselor.

Books are selling out at the book fair. If you missed your favorites you can shop the fair online until April 3. Books will ship to school at no extra cost to you.

The LA County Department of Public Health (LACDPH) and LA County Office of Education (LACOE) are encouraging families to pick up FREE at-home test kits from their school to be used upon return from Spring Break vacations. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has made 1.7 million test kits available for public and private schools in Los Angeles County as part of their on-going efforts to keep students and staff safe and in the classroom.

For your convenience, we will make these test kits available to families in our student pick up loop according to the schedule below. No appointment is necessary.

• Wednesday, March 30, 2022 between 2:30 pm and 4 pm
• Thursday, March 31, 2022 between 2:30 pm and 4 pm
• Friday, April 1, 2022 between 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm

If you choose to use a test kit after your Spring Break getaway, it is recommended that tests be administered 24-48 hours before the return to school on April 11th.

CDC travel recommendations can be found here. Testing is not required to return to school after Spring Break.

Our counseling team is excites to meet La Mesa families on Tuesday during Open House. We will have a resource table on display, Infinite Campus tutorials, and have our stocked HOWL Den open. See you there!

Many of our 8th grade parents have asked about 8th Grade Promotion. The Hart District Junior Highs, including La Mesa, have not held 8th Grade Promotions for the past 10+ years. We do have our annual 8th Grade Awards ceremony where we recognize students for academic, character, and leadership. Unfortunately, not all students earn awards. Special invitations are sent home. We are working now on all of our 8th grade activities that also include a dance. More information to come!
