World Read Aloud Day 2021
We are encouraging our families to celebrate World Read Aloud Day by reading a book together and taking a photo of the occasion. PLEASE- NO FACES IN THE PHOTOS. Then please share them with me (Mrs. Totin the librarian) at mtotin@kusd.edu. In your email, please include your child's name and their teacher's name.
We will collect these photos through the end of February. I would love to put the photos in a slide show to share on the library's and the school's Facebook pages. If you have any questions, please let me know! Thanks for participating!
Library Learning
1st grade students reviewed nonfiction text features by reading a nonfiction eBook together and discussing the text features that help readers understand the text.
2nd grade students reviewed the biography genre and learned how to find biographies that interest them in the library catalog.
Kinder-2nd grade students read the book "Superheroes are Everywhere" and learned that superheroes can be regular people who do caring things. They also began a unit on the Golden Archer Award, which is an award given to several kinds of children's books and is chosen by students in Wisconsin. Our children are reading the titles in the picture book division.
3rd grade students began the month by playing a game to help them review the different parts of the Dewey Decimal system, which is the system used to organize nonfiction books in almost every library in the world.
4th grade students learned about how to evaluate online resources for validity and reliability, and completed a quiz about what they learned.
5th grade students discussed learned about and discussed the difference between "thin" and "thick" questions and why "thick" questions are so valuable when it comes to research.
3rd-5th grade students read the book "The Next President" by Kate Messner. This book gives interesting facts about all of our past presidents and about the history of the office of President of the United States. They also completed a Kahoot quiz about the book. These students also began the Golden Archer Award unit by learning about the history of the award and listen to one of the stories in the picture book division.
