St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 3 | WEEK 5 | 19 AUGUST 2021
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change;
Courage to change the things I can;
And wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
As it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right. If I surrender to His will;
So that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him
Forever and ever in the next.
Amen.
From the Principal
Dear St Columba’s school community,
As we get to the halfway point of Term 3, I would like to thank all the wonderful staff at St Columba’s for their dedication to our students and the whole school community. Without this commitment, the school would not run as smoothly as it does!
Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 students who competed in the CAPSS MHL Carnival. The students represented the school in Modcrosse, Handball and League Tag. Yet again, our students should be commended on their sportsmanship and the way they represented St Columba’s. Well done and thank you to Mr Chatt, Mr Beins, Mrs Brine and Mrs Jas for assisting the students on the day.
This week I had the pleasure to watch our wonderful school choir perform in the Sacred Choral Choir section at the Catholic Performing Arts Festival at St Benedict’s Catholic Church. I was so proud of our students and they sang beautifully! Well done to Mrs Louise McDonald for guiding our students through this performance.
Book Week is my favourite time of the year! I love seeing all the students (and staff) dress up as book characters. The theme this year is ‘Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds’. The Book Week Assembly will be on Monday, August 23 at 9am. Due to our increasing number of students the Assembly, with the much-anticipated teacher item, and the parade will be held on the Tennis Courts. Please read the information further on in the newsletter from Mrs Brine.
National Science Week was celebrated this week with the theme ‘Food: Different by Design’. Due to other commitments this week, we postponed our Science Week activities until next week. I’m looking forward to sharing with you the amazing activities that are planned.
With the flu season in full swing, I would like to remind parents and caregivers that if your child is unwell, please consider the school community and keep them home until they are well enough to come back to school. Please email the school admin if your child will be away from school.
A reminder that school will be closed tomorrow, Friday August 20, as staff will be attending professional development off site.
Wishing everyone a lovely long weekend!
God Bless
Rebecca Clarke
Principal

CAPSS Inter School MHL Carnival
On 17 August at Morris Buzacott Reserve selected Year 5 and all Year 6 students attended the CAPSS Inter School MHL Carnival. Students competed in either a Modcrosse, Handball or League Tag competition. All teams competed at a high level displaying wonderful enthusiasm and team spirit. Our students placed 2nd in Modcrosse, 3rd in League Tag and Handball, however that did not represent our students fantastic determination, consistent effort and encouragement towards others throughout the day. We are proud of our students' efforts, displaying their abilities over various types of sports and being wonderful representatives of their school.
Well done!

P&F
Hi Everyone,
The term is steaming along.
I'd like to say a very big thank you to all the people that came and helped me set up for Retro Bingo. It made it a lot easier, and for those who stayed behind and helped pack up too. The night was a huge success with everybody going to so much effort to dress up. I'd just like to mention the Bridal Party even had a real wedding cake, which I believe tasted delicious! We have some great photos from the night. It was a really fun night and I hope everybody enjoyed themselves. It was great to have the community together having fun. Many thanks to everyone who helped. Thanks also to the businesses who donated prizes for the night. Your generosity is always appreciated, and certainly added to the success of it all. Congrats go to all of the lucky winners!
We now have Cards That Count for purchase. Codes and instructions on how to order have been sent home. Orders close on 29th August. Don't miss out on your children's personally drawn cards that you can send to family and friends. From every pack purchased $5 is donated to the P&F, which goes towards being able to purchase equipment or resources for all our children.
The Christmas Fair is in full swing, keep looking out for what is needed eg. books, toys and potting up plants. A huge thank you to Brooke Pink for all the many many hours she is putting into this.
Enjoy the weekend everyone.
Cheers

Christmas Fair News
FAIR NEWS
I hope everyone has really enjoyed the beautiful weather we have been having. The mornings are getting lighter, the days are getting warmer and the cherry blossoms have started blooming..... And all of those wonderful things mean spring is almost here and our Fair is just around the corner!! This Sunday marks 13 weeks until the day!
I know that all classes are busy planning their stalls and I appreciate everyone's involvement. Along with the class stalls, I am going to need all hands on deck on the day for general fair logistics. So this weeks call out is for:
VOLUNTEERS VOLUNTEERS VOLUNTEERS!
In the next couple of weeks I will be circulating an online sign up for volunteers. Please have a look and consider when and where you can help. The more helpers, the better the day will be for all.
Enjoy your midterm break
Brooke Pink
