The Governor's Educator of the Year Program
The Governor’s Teacher of the Year program requires nominees to have achieved a 2014-15 summative rating of Effective or Highly Effective. The teacher or educational services provider must be a dedicated and skilled teacher leader who anticipates actively continuing in his/her teaching career for at least five (5) more years, one who inspires students of all backgrounds and abilities to learn; demonstrates a strong ability to foster excellence in education as evidenced by ongoing contributions to the improvement of student learning and the learning environment; demonstrates leadership in educational activities at the school, district, and/or state and national level that take place both within or outside the school setting; must have the respect and admiration of students, parents, and colleagues; demonstrate poise, eloquence, and the ability to maintain a demanding schedule.
Kinnelon High School's Teacher of the Year is Math Teacher Mrs. Jackie Bargarozza; the High School’s Educational Services Provider of the Year is School Counselor Mr. Michael Buesser.
Pearl R. Miller School’s Teacher of the Year is Special Education Teacher Mrs. Teresa McMahon; PRM’s Educational Services Provider of the Year is Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant Mrs. Lisa Nafash.

Visual & Preforming Arts at Kinnelon Public Schools
North Jersey Region 1 Honors Choir at KHS
Kinnelon High School hosted rehearsals of the North Jersey (NJ Region 1) Honor Choirs this week, with over 300 singers from schools across northern New Jersey. They will present a concert on Saturday at Sparta HS. Congratulations, again, to the KHS students that were accepted to the groups: Gina Lauria, Leen Khashashina, Kathleen Morrisroe, Carly Giacoio, and Jessica Lisowski.
North Jersey Area Band at PRM & KHS
This year Kristen Park, Erin Mickey, Mitchell Polevoy, Evan Lane and Peter Davin were all accepted into the North Jersey Area Band. Nearly 400 students auditioned for 100 spots in the exclusive band. Of note, Kristen Park auditioned on two instruments and received first chair overall on both, which is an incredible achievement. Also notable is that Mitch, Evan and Peter are all 9th graders, and very, very few 9th graders are accepted into this band.
As for PRM, there are 8 students in the group; Grace Goldberg, Emma Whittemore, Daniella Rizzo, Haydn Hishmeh, Matthew Melada, Morgan Festa, Alessio Mennonna and Paul Schrope. Both Grace and Alessio were in the group last year as 7th grade students so being a part of this for a second year is a great privilege. It is also important to note that Daniella Rizzo placed first on Bass Clarinet and this maintains about decade plus steak of having the “First Chair” on an instrument occupied by a PRM student! These students participated in the 52nd annual NJAB Concert on Sunday, January 17th at Mt. Olive HS.
KHS Student Artist Wins Illustration Contest
Congratulations to KHS artist Elisa Leone for her first-place finish designing the Morris County Manual cover. She will receive a check for $500.00 as an award. Her work will be reproduced as the cover for the Morris County Manual in the spring. This will be the fourth cover Kinnelon High School students have supplied for this publication and the 14th award students have earned in this contest over the last 17 years. Elisa and her computer art teacher, Mr. Geoff Flash, will attend the award presentation at a future County Freeholders meeting.

Destination Imagination Team the DI DAMSLs Run a Successful Coat Drive
Last month our Destination Imagination team the DI DAMSLs collected used coats in good condition to donate to children in Paterson, NJ. Their goal was to collect 100 coats.
The students and their families in Kinnelon were very generous. They were able to exceed their goal and collected 111 coats! The DI DAMSLs would like to thank all who gave for their generosity!
