SMMS STAFF NOTES

WEEK OF 19 JANUARY 2016

MISSION QUESTION

If I could change something about our mission, it would be to express differently the first portion that we empower students and our community to...

I'd like to express that we are also empowered by our students and our community. If you can think of a clever or at least non-clunky way to express this, please let me know and let's have a conversation.

I think this change would be important and beneficial because, while we are in the work of evangelizing, an essential duty of the evangelizer is to be evangelized -- to always be open to conversion from those we serve.

MAVERICK VALUES

This Piece Nicely Combines Our Mission & Curiosity

If Your Students Are Not Curious Enough In Your Class

GROWTH MINDSET

What You Might Need To Change About Your Growth Mindset Approach

From the article below: "It seems the growth mindset has run amok. Kids are being offered empty praise for just trying. Effort itself has become praise-worthy without the goal it was meant to unleash: learning. Parents tell her that they have a growth mindset, but then they react with anxiety or false affect to a child’s struggle or setback. 'They need a learning reaction – ‘what did you do?’, ‘what can we do next?’ Dweck says."

Catholic Schools Week

Please think of four things:

1. service activities to do with your students

3. a whole school academic initiative to kick off during CSW

4. ways to show your students and our parents how much you appreciate them
