A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL GRIFFIN
Thank you for your continued involvement in our school community. We are truly Better Together.
This month we will have our first PTA meeting! We would like to invite you to attend this first meeting so we can:
- Collect 10 dollars in PTA membership dues.
- Vote on our Executive Board (You must join the PTA to vote).
Please see the invitation below for more information about the PTA meeting. Joining the PTA does not obligate you to any kind of volunteer requirements. It does give you the opportunity to vote and plan events for our students and families. We need your help to begin providing family events for our students. Please help!

What's an IRIP?
IRIPS Now Available to Students Who Need Them
IRIPS - Individual Reading Improvement Plan
A new step in our intervention process is the new State mandated IRIP or Individual Reading Improvement Plan. This applies to students in kindergarten through third grade who are well below proficient in their reading ability and may need more help.
In the coming week, families will receive communication via phone call or letter from our school if your student qualifies for an intervention or IRIP plan. (IRIPs are new. Read more about them below.)
Right now at East we are planning for many students to start participating in interventions. An academic intervention is simply a focused instructional time that targets specific needs and/or gaps in learning. Interventions may include small group instruction, progress monitoring, and additional communication between a student’s teacher and additional school staff who are conducting the intervention.
In some instances, students will receive focused instruction outside of their class for short periods of time. This is done to provide the focused support that each student needs, and does not normally impact core reading, writing, or math instruction. We want each student to continue learning with their classmates on these core subjects, while they also receive this additional intervention instruction to catch them up.
The term “intervention” can sound scary, but really all it means is that our school is making a change to instruction to better meet the needs of a student. There may be gaps in learning for any number of reasons. Some students might miss some school and miss learning about a concept. Other students might not have understood the instruction as it was happening. Still other students might just need more time to let the learning form. It’s helpful to know that interventions are a part of a normal day here at East.

HANDLE WITH CARE
❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Did your child have a difficult morning or evening?
Concerned about how the day is going to go for them at school?
We have a plan for that!
Call the school and give us your child's name along with the message "handle with care". No need to share details and no questions will be asked. This will tell us your child may need extra support or connection throughout the day.
