Parents,
This year students in both the face-to-face and virtual school settings will be using Canvas as their learning platform. Canvas is new to LISD and has been implemented to help teachers and students meet many of the challenges we face in the current environment due to COVID-19.
All LISD students, Pre-K through 12th grade, will use Canvas to access course materials, interact with their classmates and teachers, actively engage in assignments and more. Each student will automatically be enrolled in their teachers’ Canvas courses and each day’s lesson will be clearly labeled in the course under “Modules”.
We hope that transition to Canvas will also give LISD parents improved opportunities to stay engaged and involved in what is happening in their child’s classroom. As we prepare for the beginning of the school year, please make sure you download both the Canvas Parent App and the Skyward app, so you can stay informed.
After the first day of school, you will be able to create a Canvas parent account to stay informed about your child’s assignments and see grades on returned work. Please follow the attachment for instructions on how to create a Canvas parent account.
Skyward will continue to be the official gradebook of LISD. Please continue to check Skyward for your child’s grades and for missing assignments.
If you would like to learn more about the Canvas platform, click here for our Canvas Overview, created specifically for LISD parents and students.
Thank you for your partnership and support. We are looking forward to a great school year!
