From the Principal
Dear Parents and Guardian,
It's hard to believe, but we are on week #7 of the school year. Monday begins the new marking period for the 2nd six weeks. Report cards will be ready on September 30th. We will also have an Awards Assembly on October 7th between 8:25 a.m.-9:30 a.m. PK-2 grades will be from 8:25 a.m.-9:00 a.m. and 3rd-5th grades will be from 9:00 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Parents are welcome to attend. Because we don't want to take away too much instructional time, please take pictures during the ceremony. We will have to quickly transition after the ceremony times. Also, that day at 2:30 p.m.., scholars who have had perfect attendance for the entire 1st six weeks will be eligible to participate in the Perfect Attendance celebration in our cafeteria. Mr. Coit is leading this effort.
The Lake Ridge Store is preparing to open up. With that being said, if you would like to donate toys, books, games. coloring books, etc., please bring items to the main office. Anything you bring will be greatly appreciated.
This week is Gear Up Go Get It Spirit Week. Please click on the link for all of the fun activities.

Theme Days will continue. We hope to see all parents in attendance.
- Mathematics Monday
- Teacher Tuesday (This week's focus is on Revising and Editing.)
- Workout Wednesday (No gym shorts please.)
- Therapeutic Thursday (The focus is on being calm using different breathing techniques.)
- Fun Friday (Enrichment Clubs start on September 30th)
Scholars are expected to be in school uniform daily unless they have perfect attendance from the previous week. If they meet this criterion, then your child/children can have free dress on the following Monday. The other time uniforms will not be a requirement is on Workout Wednesdays and on Fridays for Spirit Day.
Our school accountability this year will focus heavily on Domain 1 which is Student Achievement. This is met by scholars in grades 3-5 scoring at the Approaches level on the STAAR tests taken in their respective grade level. Approaches is the lowest passing score your child/children can receive on the STAAR test. However, we want all scholars to score at the Meets or preferably the Masters level on STAAR. We have already started during the morning announcements reminding scholars about their brain. This month we are focused on the prefrontal cortex (PFC). The PFC helps us to do math problem solving and comprehend what we read. It also helps us to make the right decisions. And, as mentioned above, this week, we will start our theme days focused on academics on Mondays and Tuesdays. Also, it is critical that you submit a lunch application whether or you qualify or not. We want to make sure that Lake Ridge Elementary School is in the correct comparison group. That plays a role in our overall school accountability rating.
House Bill 4545 parent meetings will continue. For those parents who have participated in the meetings, please make sure that you send back the signed permission letters that have been sent home.
Don't forget about signing up for PTA. We want and need your help. Currently, we have a contest between classes. A flyer was sent home a few weeks ago. However, in case you missed it, see the link below for details.
Please see the following information for PTA Membership: https://linktr.ee/lakeridgepta.
If you have any questions about the PTA Membership, please contact our PTA President, Mrs. Phillips at lakeridgeelempta@gmail.com.
Make sure that your child brings their Google Chromebook charged daily. Most scholars will have assignments in Schoology as the year progresses.
Below are a few reminders:
- To ensure that we continue to have safe arrival and dismissal procedures:
- Don't park your car in the car lanes for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.
- Don't pull your car in front of the buses in the morning during drop-off.
- Don't create a drop-off lane during morning arrival.
- Please be patient during car-rider arrival and dismissal. Don't get out of your car to pick-up your child/children.
- Notify the office by 3:20 p.m., if you are picking up your child early. Otherwise, the dismissal time is 3:35 p.m.
- The office is extremely busy during dismissal. Therefore, if you do not contact the office by 3:20 p.m. for early pick-up, you will have to wait until 3:50 p.m. unless it is an emergency.
- Please be patient with transportation.
Be sure to keep the following dates(s) in mind:
- September 28th from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. is the Open House. You will have an opportunity to meet the entire staff, receive critical information about the curriculum your child is learning and receive Title 1 information.
- September 30th: All Pro Dads Breakfast
- The free lunch program has expired. With that being said, please make sure to fill out a lunch application whether you qualify or not. This impacts our school accountability. The links are: https://www.chisd.net/Page/101 and https://frapps.horizonsolana.com/welcome
- Transportation information can be found at the link below. Don't forget to register your child if he/she will ride the school bus.
- Transportation / Transportation Home (chisd.net)
- ZPASS cards were passed out on September 6th to our bus riders. Parents may begin downloading the SafeStop app (Transportation / SafeStop App (chisd.net)), which allows you to track your child/children each time your child boards and exits the bus, as well as the location. After September 6th, scholars will not be able to board the bus without their ZPASS card. Please check the FAQ page for instructions on how to obtain a replacement card. If a scholar misplaces their ZPASS card, until a new one is purchased and issued, scholars must obtain a Temporary Scholar Bus Pass. After 30 days, the Temporary Scholar Bus Pass cannot be renewed if given due to a misplaced ZPASS card. More information about transportation and the ZPASS can be found below.
Thank you all for supporting Lake Ridge Elementary scholars and staff.

Tips for Managing Back to School Stress
The beginning of the school year is an exciting time for scholars, but it can also be a stressful time for parents. Here are a few suggestions from the experts to help manage back to school stress. Click here for parent tips and sign up for monthly newsletters.
September is Suicide Prevention Month
Recognizing when people in our lives are struggling with emotional pain and helping them feel comfortable to talk about it can help prevent mental health crisis, including suicide. Learning the warning signs, knowing how to start a conversation, and knowing where to get professional help can make a powerful life changing difference. For tips on how to explain suicide prevention to your scholar, please visit the LRE Guidance Office.
Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated September 15 – October 15. It is a time to honor the contributions, achievements, culture, and history of Hispanic Americans. In 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson declared Hispanic Heritage Week and in 1988, President Ronald Reagan extended the commemoration for one month to include all Latin and Central American countries. Please check out the LRE Guidance Office for Hispanic Heritage Month activities, live events, and a virtual tour of the Smithsonian Latin Center.
College Awareness Week
CHISD will host its annual GEAR UP & Go Get It Week, September 26th - 30th. This is a collaborative weeklong event, aimed at bringing attention to the options scholars have after high school and supports Student Outcome Goal #1 (increase the percentage of scholars graduating college, career, and military ready). Please see the calendar of events in the LRE Guidance Office. Scholars in grades PK-5 are encouraged to explore college opportunities and experiences through virtual college tours located in the LRE Guidance Office. Families are encouraged to visit the LRE Guidance Office for virtual tours throughout the month of September.
Metal Health Services Available to Staffers
Care Solace is a new mental health partner, available to CHISD families and staff. The mission of Care Solace is to match students, staff and families in need to verify, local service providers, securing appointments in days, not weeks or months. Birthday Recognition
If you would like to recognize your child at school on his/her birthday that falls on a school day, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher so that he/she can notify the office. On your child's birthday, you may drop off store bought cupcakes or packaged fruit and individual juice/water at the time indicated by the teacher if you have communicated with the teacher. If your child's birthday falls on a weekend or on a non-school day for students, no alternate arrangements will be made.
Arrangements should be made prior to the child's birthday so that the teacher can verify that it will not interrupt scheduled class activities.
Montessori
Birthdays in Montessori Primary and Lower Elementary are generally celebrated with an activity called "Walk Around the Sun". Each classroom, including Upper Elementary, has their own way of celebrating birthdays which is communicated by the classroom teacher.
CHISD C.A.R.E.S. & CHISD KUDOS
