Counselor's Corner
Otsego Elementary School: What's Miss Mikesina Planning?
January 2015
Pennies for Patients
From January 26 - February 12 we will be participating in Pennies for Patients through the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Students will collect change for kids who are sick. Each student will receive their own collection box & each class will have a collection box. As a school our goal is to raise $5,000 and the top fundraising class wins a pizza party! Donations can also be made online here. Click on "See the school Otsego Elementary School" on the right side of the webpage to find a classroom & donate in that classroom's name! Start collecting your loose change for a great cause!
Mini-Meetings
I will be visiting every class by February and holding "mini-meetings" with every student. Each student gets to meet with me for 1-2 minutes where I will ask some simple questions, such as "How do you feel about school?" and "Do you know what job you want to have when you grow up?" This will serve as a mid-year check-in and to gather data for the school counseling program. I can't wait to continue getting to know all of the students!
OES Wee-Mail Post Office
This month, new 4th graders are being chosen to work at the Post Office! The workers from last month will be training the new workers on how to do their jobs.

Small Group Update
In December, fall small groups wrapped up! In February, spring small groups will start. These group topics may include changing families, anger management, friendship, positive school behaviors, study skills, social skills and anxiety work. Students are recommended for groups by their teachers, parents, or myself. If you would like your student to participate in a group, feel free to contact me.
