Free Meals ENDING

Reinstatement of Meal Charges for Next School Year (2022-2023)

During the COVID Pandemic, schools were able to provide FREE meals to all students through Federal Programs. Unfortunately, those programs will be ending at the end of this school year. Starting with the 2022-2023 school year, all meals through the school will once again be charged to student lunch accounts and the costs of all purchases will need to be covered by families.

What this means for PARENTS...

Parents/Guardians are responsible for all purchases made and any debts incurred by their student. Parents MUST have money available for their student to use when purchasing meals and/or a la carte items at school. Parents can add money to their student's lunch account via the Parent Portal using a credit or debit card, or parents can send in a check or cash to school with their student.

Please note that for purchases to be made, your student MUST have funds available to cover the FULL COST of the item(s) being purchased at the time of purchase.

Student accounts will NOT be allowed to go negative, so please monitor your student's account via the Parent Portal.

Purchasing restrictions can be placed on student accounts on an as-needed basis at the request of the parent/guardian by contacting the WUS Food Service office.

Resources for Families...

All families are encouraged to apply for the FREE & REDUCED PRICE MEAL PROGRAM. This program allows students of eligible families to purchase meals at school for FREE or at a REDUCED cost. Eligibility is based on household size and income level.

Applications for the FREE & REDUCED PRICE MEAL PROGRAM need to be submitted by families each school year. Due to Federal guidelines, applications for the 2022-2023 school year can NOT be accepted until after July 1, 2022. Additional information about the program and how to apply can be found in the "Free & Reduced Price Meal Program" article below.

Free & Reduced Price Meal Program: 2022-2023

The Free & Reduced Price Meal Program is a federally funded program that allows students of eligible households to receive FREE or REDUCED-cost meals at school. Applying for this program is optional, but all families are encouraged to apply. Eligibility is based on household size and income level.

Families need to apply for this program each school year. Only one application needs to be submitted per family. It is recommended that families apply for this program at the beginning of the year to avoid accruing unnecessary meal charges as benefits of this program are NOT retroactive. Parents are responsible for any and all charges to their student's lunch account while waiting for applications to be processed.

Applications for the Free & Reduced Price Meal Program can NOT be accepted for the 2022-2023 school year until after July 1, 2022. Once a family's application is processed, a notification letter will be mailed to the household that explains eligibility.

APPLICATIONS

Electronic Applications are available online and can be found by selecting the MORE option from the Main Menu within the PARENT PORTAL. From there, select MEAL BENEFITS to complete the application and submit it electronically. This is the quickest and easiest way to submit an application.

Paper Applications can be obtained at the school office. They can also be downloaded and printed by clicking on the picture of the application below or via the WUS Food Services Department Website. Completed applications can be sent to the office of your child's school or mailed to the WUS Food Services Department:
