Principal's Newsletter

From the Desk of Ms. Clark

January 16, 2020

Dear Parents,

“Be it known to all who enter that Christ is the reason for our school. He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes. He is the model of its faculty and the inspiration of its students.” Throughout the school year, we are reminded of the many ways our school community portrays and shares our Catholic identity. We know that by the time our students graduate from 8th grade, they are well aware of this identity. Each day, we help our students develop a true understanding of your gift of a Catholic education to them!

As we focus on our Catholic Identity and our school’s mission, I invite you to join us on Wednesday, January 22nd for our annual “Walk for Life.” We will gather in the gym at 1pm for prayer prior to our departure. We make a public, pro-life statement as the entire school community walks down Holland Road and through the neighborhood behind school. It really is a special day!

Catholic Schools Week is rapidly approaching. Please mark your calendars for our Open House on Sunday, January 26th. During Catholic Schools Week, the students, school families, and faculty will enjoy various activities that celebrate our pride in Catholic education and the mission of SKD school.

Let us pray for our young people every day. In the words of Archbishop Chaput, “Let’s recall the reason our school exists. Each of our students is eternally precious and infinitely loved by God. What they learn in their classrooms, they need to see lived with joy in our lives.” Together, we can fulfill our school’s mission and form Catholic leaders who will remain true to their Catholic identity.

God’s blessings,

Ms. Clark

Catholic Schools Week

Catholic Schools Week is celebrated at the end of January. We are planning for this special and memorable week. Make your plans now to visit school or tell someone who is interested in seeing our school. Our Open House will be held on Sunday, January 26th from 12-2pm. We hope you will consider visiting us during our Open House and tell your family and friends.

Our SKD Performing Arts Club proudly presents "The Lion King Kids" during this year's Catholic Schools Week. Please join us for this free show on Wednesday, January 29th at 7pm in the gym.

Snow Emergency Procedures

By this time last year, we already had a snow day. We have been very lucky so far, but I am not sure how long this luck will last. Please make yourself familiar with our school closing procedures. You can view these procedures in detail on our school website under Parent Resources. Please be sure to have a Back-up Plan for child care in the event that our school is closed or is dismissing early.

Virtual Classroom

In the event of a Snow Day, our students and teachers (grades 3-8) will once again participate in their Virtual Classrooms with the main goal of not losing instructional time and momentum. In this digital age, where the technology exists, if we do not utilize online learning in these types of circumstances, it is truly a missed opportunity.

I thank our dedicated teachers for always striving for our mission of academic excellence by embracing this 21st century learning strategy and developing short but thoughtful and meaningful lessons for our students. Some lessons will include viewing a simple video, sharing a reflective response, or reading for a short period of time.
