BWMS Parent Update
9/17/21
Grade Update Day
Parents,
Can you believe that today Friday 9/17/21 is the mid-point of the 1st quarter? We call these Grade Update Days and we encourage all parents to log into PowerSchool to check the progress of their student's performance. Have a conversation with your student about how things are going and what they are learning. Find out how they take advantage of the multiple opportunities to be successful by reassessment at BWMS. Also, information about signing up for a conference on Tuesday 9/24/19 or Thursday 10/7/21 are posted below.
Next week is Spirit Week. Check out the themes for each day below and encourage your student to show that Eagle Pride daily.
Have a great long weekend!
Sincerely,
Mr. Josh Frame

Social Media Support
Big Walnut Families,
In a recent social media trend on “TikTok,” students are unfortunately encouraged to video themselves destroying or stealing school property. The middle school and high school have had several incidents of this happening. We want our students to take great pride in our school and will not tolerate the destruction and theft of school property. These actions within this recent trend do not reflect actions of Eagle Pride to which we hold ourselves accountable. Therefore, students who choose to engage in this behavior will receive consequences which may also include law enforcement.
Although we know it is not a majority of our students participating in this viral trend, we are asking all parents and guardians to help contribute to a safe and positive learning environment by doing the following:
Speak with your student about how these actions listed above are unacceptable.
Monitor your student’s social media accounts.
Report any information that will help us stop further destruction or theft from happening.
Thank you for your cooperation.

Events & Activities at BWMS
Greetings BWMS Families,
I wanted you to be aware that due to the ongoing COVID-19 challenges, we are making adjustments to some of our events to promote the safety of our students. We have decided to postpone all school dances and teen nights at Big Walnut Middle School until further notice. However, we have worked with our student council and SOAR leaders to find other ways to provide unique experiences for our students during this time. To this point, we have scheduled an outside event with a DJ in connection with our Stomp Out Bullying Week for our students during their Advisory classes on Thursday, October 14th.
In the same light, we have decided to postpone the 8th grade parent meeting for the Washington DC trip at this time. As a district, we do not want to put our parents/families at risk of losing money from a nonrefundable deposit while we wait to see how the state of affairs continues to shift within our state and nation's capital. While we are yet to commit to the Washington DC trip as a school, we are planning to review other local trips that would align with our 8th grade curriculum and will hopefully have more to share in the coming weeks. Undoubtedly we know this will be disappointing to many, although we are confident it is an appropriate response under these unique circumstances. Please look for the list of options to be shared soon.
Sincerely,
Mr. Frame

Panorama Survey
At some point during the next several weeks all Big Walnut Students (Prek-12) will be taking a Panorama Survey. Panorama is a web-based assessment platform for measuring social-emotional skills including the life skills our community has identified as important. When completing the questionnaire, students will be encouraged to reflect on their own mindsets, approaches to learning, and feelings about school. This information will help us provide support and instruction in many areas, including those characteristics found in our Eagle Profile. The results of this survey are completely anonymous and will not be tied directly to students; the only identifier will be the students’ grade levels. Please reach out to the BWMS office if you have any questions or concerns.
