January Recap
January in the Stinson Middle School Library was marked by a thoughtful blend of historical exploration, academic guidance, and engaging activities. ELA classes delved into the sobering lessons of the Holocaust through a mini-museum within the library, aligning with Texas' Holocaust Remembrance Week. The exhibit provided a comprehensive timeline of World War II, insights into the victims of the Holocaust, and other pivotal information, fostering a deeper understanding among students.
Simultaneously, ELA students embarked on argumentative/persuasive research units, with Mrs. Fosmire offering invaluable guidance on utilizing databases to support their research and arguments. ALE students embraced creativity by crafting their own imaginary friends out of Play-Doh, inspired by the charming tale "The Adventures of Beekle, the Unimaginary Friend" by Dan Santat.
Emerging Bilingual students navigated the vast knowledge landscape of Encyclopedia Britannica through a digital scavenger hunt, exploring individual topics of interest and familiarizing themselves with this valuable resource.
The library played a multifaceted role throughout the month, hosting the annual Hearing & Vision screening and serving as a holding area and rendezvous point for students during various school events and trips.
Monthly promotions brought a burst of energy to the library, featuring the New Year, New You Resolutions Challenge, where students penned resolutions and checked out books to support their goals. National Puzzle Day was celebrated with engaging puzzles for students to tackle, and a historical fiction display spotlighting WWII-era books complemented the interactive Holocaust timeline.
The month concluded on a high note with Flight Camp for current 5th graders from feeder campuses. Flight Camp provided an opportunity for these students to explore the Stinson campus, familiarize themselves with the library, and immerse themselves in the creativity of maker space stations. January in the Stinson Middle School Library was a month of meaningful exploration, academic growth, and interactive learning experiences.
