FIFTH GRADE MUSICAL
The 5th grade concert will be presented on Wednesday, May 9th at 7:00 pm – Our musical is called “Mrs. Melody’s Magical Music Room” – a story about a group of kids who go back in time with their music teacher to learn about the history of American popular music. You’ll hear hits from the 1930s to today! Fifth grade will also perform for our students at 9:15 that day.
Happy Spring! I can’t believe the school year is almost over already. The time has really flown. I want to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting all of our Community Service projects this year. In total, you have sent in: 736 school supplies for one of the flooded out schools in Texas; 537 jars of peanut butter & jelly and boxes of macaroni and cheese; $200 for breast cancer research; 244 toys for Toys for Tots; 135 coats, 61 scarves, 95 pr/gloves; 192 hats, 12 blankets, 2 pr/boots, 3 snowpants, & 2 pajamas for the homeless and low income families in Whitehall and Philadelphia; we have raised close to $1000 for the Puerto Rico hurricane relief fund; we collected 201 items for Forgotten Felines and Fidos AND we raised $5,654.45 for Pennies for Patients Leukemia/Lymphoma Society. WOW! None of this can happen without you.
The Community Service Club members also do projects on their own. This year the members raised $522.94 for UNICEF; $305 for the Heifer Project and they will be doing Nothing but Nets to fight malaria later this month. Also, they run the school store every Friday and their profits are given to several charities that they choose. They already have given $500 to the Allentown Rescue Mission, and $50 to the girl scout troop’s project for the children’s wing of LVH. All of the remaining profits will be donated to the National Diabetes Foundation.
I can’t thank you enough for supporting in any way the many community service projects we undertake every year. Our community service club philosophy is Gandhi’s quote, “Be the Change You Wish to See in the World.” With your support, we have made that a reality.
Thank you again,
Professional School Counselor
Shoemaker Elementary PTO Annual Color Run is June 1st
Get your walking and running shoes on...Participants can run, walk, or jog our 4/10 mile short course or 6/10 mile long course. (Run one long course and an extra short course to equal approx. 1 mile.) Be sure to wear your Shoemaker Color Run t-shirt because along the course there will be color powder stations where you will get showered with color powder (high quality cornstarch and food dyes, approved by the US FDA). Participants can also choose to bypass the color powder and continue around the course. At the end of the race, there will be a mass color throw, followed by music provided by our DJ, as well as various food and snack vendors. Strollers are welcome and bright, fun, zany attire is encouraged.
Mr. Shreck’s 5th Grade Art Club Paints Their 51st Window Mural!
The students of Shoemaker’s 5th grade Art Club traveled to the Promenade AMC Theatre to paint their mural for the new Marvel movie, Avengers: Infinity War. Earlier in the week, students created concept drawings of what they wanted the windows to look like. Those incredible designs were then drawn on the windows by Mr. Shreck over a span of 3.5 hours. Amazingly, the entire mural was then outlined and colored by students and their families in just 4 hours!
The Art Club students hope that you enjoy the photos that showcase their artistic talents and efforts! Please stop by and check it out if you can! This was the 33rd movie mural created for the theatre and the 51st movie mural in the past 13 years for the Art Club at Shoemaker!
