The Mythology of Scorpius

The scorpion was sent by Gala to battle Orion because she felt that Orion was hunting and killing too many animals. They both battled and killed each other. To maintain peace Scorpius and Orion were placed in opposite sides of the sky.

Scorpius is one of the constellations in the zodiac. Scorpius is located near the milky-way and is very large. 14 of the stars in Scorpius have planets.The brightest star in Scorpius is Antares. Scorpius has an optical double. An optical double is when you view the constellation from Earth and two of the stars appear close together but really are not. These stars are also contrasting colors. The two stars are blue and yellow. The brightest stars in Scorpius form a pattern that looks like a longshoreman's hook. Scorpius can only be viewed during the summertime.
