We are currently seeking volunteers to help run each station. Please call the school office (440-995-7500) if you are interested in volunteering for Field Day. Field Day is scheduled to kick off at 12:45pm. Volunteers should plan on arriving at school by 12:30pm for instructions from Mr. Myers regarding the stations. Field Day will end at 2:15pm so students can enjoy a refreshing popsicle. Please consider volunteering for this fun event!
Fifth Grade Graduation
Fifth grade graduation is scheduled for Monday, May 21st, at 7pm at the Gates Mills Community House. Students should arrive by 6:30pm to allow time for family picture taking before the ceremony. Girls should wear dresses or skirts and boys should wear dress slacks, shirts and ties. Invitations were sent home on Friday. Parking will be available at the Community House, along Chagrin River Road and in the lower school parking lot. Any questions, please call the school office.
Last Day of School
Should you desire to take your child(ren) home after the clap-out or picnic, it is imperative you sign him/her out in the school office. As we are all concerned about the safety of our students, it is critical we take the necessary steps to account for their location.
Special Honors of Graduating Seniors
Each year, the PTO is pleased to present a scholarship to an accomplished Gates Mills School alum who is graduating from Mayfield High School. This week at the MHS Honors Assembly, the PTO was pleased to present a $350 scholarship to Jose Mendez. Jose will be attending Cleveland State University in the fall. Congratulations, Jose, and best of luck!!
We are also pleased to announce that Gates Mills School alum Ilya Yatsishin is the 2018 MHS Valedictorian. Ilya plans on attending Princeton University in the fall. Congratulations, Ilya!!
Proper School Attire:
As the weather becomes warmer, please be sure your child is dressed appropriately for school each day. Gates Mills students are not permitted to wear shoes with wheels, short shorts, muscle shirts, tank tops with narrow straps and large armholes, or shirts that show bare midriffs. Students are also not permitted to wear T-shirts or sweatshirts with inappropriate pictures and/or slogans. If a student is dressed inappropriately, we will call home. If you have questions regarding the length of shorts your child chooses to wear, please send an extra pair to school with your child. The fingertip test is a good benchmark (shorts should not be above the fingertip when the child has his/her arms flush to his/her side). While students are permitted to wear flip flops and crocs to school, they are not the safest foot attire for outdoor playground recess. Hard asphalt surfaces, playground equipment, and wood chips can be hurtful to little feet. Your cooperation in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Student Health Services
Health Services is unable to store any medications at school over the summer. It will be necessary for you to pick up your student’s medication by the last day of school, Thursday, May 24th. We cannot send medication home with your student. Any medications remaining in the Clinic at the end of the day on May 24th will be discarded.
If you anticipate that your child will need medication for the 2018/19 school year, you will need to complete new medication forms. Forms and medications from the previous school year cannot be used. If your child will need medications at school next year, please have the forms completed by your physician before the start of school. The healthcare paraprofessional (clinic aide) will be in the clinic on the first day of school to accept new medications. Parents must bring in medication in the original prescription container. DO NOT SEND MEDICATIONS WITH YOUR CHILD. Parents should meet with the school nurse and/or healthcare paraprofessional if there are new or significant concerns.
Please refer to the Mayfield City Schools website under: Parents – Student Health Services. Information and necessary forms can be downloaded for the following: Medications in School; Students With Asthma; Special Health Conditions and/or Allergy Information.
Outstanding Supply Fees Are Now Past Due
For your convenience the fee can be paid in the following ways: online in the parent portal by credit card or send a check or money order made payable to Mayfield City Schools to the Gates Mills office with your child's name clearly marked. School fees are used to support the high-quality instructional programs in our schools. Parents are required to pay school fees for each child. Unpaid fees are cumulative year to year.
