Message from Our Executive Director
Dear Online Program Families,
As we approach our winter months, I hope that you are staying warm and well.
These past months have been filled with successes, challenges and growth for the Online Program. What started as a small start-up to serve about 200 students has grown into a 1500+ student program served by 73 staff. Our three directors/principals, Jules Laaperi, Mayra Gomez and Becca Shook are leading their levels successfully while supported by our district leadership team. I have so enjoyed working with our students, staff and families as we have developed into a program that is serving the unique needs of our times. We have much to be proud of!
As you are aware, I am a retiree who set forth in a part-time role to develop the Online Program for our families. Now that the program is in the capable hands of our district leaders and directors, I will now be returning to my retirement life effective January 1. I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have once again served the West Linn-Wilsonville community in this role, and wish everyone the very best as the school year continues. While I will no longer be an employee of the district, and therefore unavailable by district email, I will continue to support our directors and district if needed.
Warm regards,
Carolyn Miller
Executive Director of the West Linn-Wilsonville K12 Online Program

Inclement Weather and Online Learning
Decisions to close school due to inclement weather will continue to be made based on safety and access to learning/school site. While students are all in CDL or enrolled in the WLWV K12 Online Program (WKOP), there is a strong likelihood that school could remain “open” and students can continue learning at home during inclement weather such as snow or ice. When inclement weather includes heavy winds or power outages that affect internet access, there may be a reason to delay or close school depending on the impact and access to online learning.
If the school district closes due to inclement weather, any on-site classes or activities would also be canceled. This includes Limited In-Person Instruction (LII) and co-curricular or evening activities. Any delays or closures will apply to both students in CDL and the WLWV K12 Online Program.
The district will continue to provide communication about the status of school (delay or closure) through FlashAlert and alerts on the district website. We encourage families to sign up for FlashAlert early, and families can always check the district website for the latest information.

Primary Level
Dear Primary Families,
I cannot believe this will be my last listserv message of 2020! This fall flew by but has not passed without deep reflection and a spirit of gratitude. We have an incredible community of amazing students, dedicated caregivers, and artful educators. As a team we have accomplished so much in this new territory. Thank you!
I hope that over winter break you and your family will find time to cuddle up with a favorite book and enjoy the slowed pace of some time off. May you enjoy some relaxation and peace and come back renewed for the remainder of our year together!
Sincerely,
Jules Laaperi
Director of Primary

As we approach the holiday season, I want to extend my gratitude to the entire WLWV Online community. I could not be more appreciative for your support, patience and understanding. I’m proud and consider it an honor to be serving as your principal and working together to create success for all our students. The year 2020 is definitely a year we will not forget. This pandemic has brought us changes we never imagined but it has also been an opportunity for us to see the good in all of us. We have seen our communities come together for our kids. We have seen generosity and kindness come from the most unexpected people. I encourage all of you to spend quality time with the ones you love and love you most. Let's spend time considering all that we have to be grateful for and for what's yet to come in 2021.

Counselor's Message
Dear MS OP Families and Students-
It is hard to process that we've all been in this virtual space since March, 2020. To say that our children are the most resilient of all is an understatement. Without supportive parents, guardians, grandparents, siblings, extended family members, teachers, counselors, administrators, district office staff, lunch crews, librarians, school secretaries, custodial staff, bus drivers, information technology assistants and alllll school staff- it is clear that our world just wouldn't turn with the grace, kindness, and teamwork that it does. While there have been tough days, hours, and moments, I wholeheartedly hope that all of you join together in celebration of what students have accomplished, unique to their own needs. Thank you for caring for these future leaders of the world. May the new year continue to nurture your student's love of learning in as many ways as possible. I extend this time to take pause, and engage in an active gesture of acknowledgement on behalf of students for their undeniable courage and humility through this past year: Thank you for being the humans you are... You're amazing and persevering through an experience no one before you has ever encountered. I send you daily wishes of strength to continue in this, and channel reminders of your incredible value every. single. day.
Sincerely, Mrs. Kimberly Schiewe-Gwin

As we enter into break, I want to let you know how much I have enjoyed partnering with you this year! You are an amazing school community and together we have accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. We have built a brand new program from the ground up! We continue to collect feedback from our students, families, and teachers to improve this program and make it the best it can be. Thank you so much for the support and communication you have given us. We look forward to collaborating with you into the new year in order to support our students in every way we can. Please take some time for yourselves during the next two weeks and make sure students are taking a much needed break as well. We all need time to rest, restore, renew our energy, and to do things that bring us joy.
Wishing you a wonderful winter break!
Becca
