No Energy Drinks: Please & Thank You!
Please remind your student that energy drinks are not permitted on campus. Many energy drinks contain high levels of sugar, caffeine, and other ingredients that impact focus, attention, & behavior while at school. Additionally, these drinks often leave behind messes that attract bugs and make it more difficult to keep our classrooms clean.
Thank you for your support in ensuring that your child does not bring these drinks to school.
We appreciate your help in setting up our students for success during the school day.
Hour of Code at Sonoran Foothills
Anyone can learn computer science!
Last year, over 66 million students across the globe participated in Hour of Code and engaged in opportunities to experience critical thinking skills. This year, our Bobcats (Kinder through 8th grade) will participate in a school wide Hour of Code! We look forward to bringing this opportunity to every student on December 10th and we hope they come home sharing their experience with you. Let's Code!
*You can visit code.org for more information on coding.

All Things EQ Message (from the founder Danna Evans):
The motto last week in school was:
The cure for boredom is curiosity!
Students don't enjoy being bored because being bored is boring. Curiosity is far more fun!
Here are three easy tools to empower students to tap into their curiosity and give themselves a better experience.
1. Are my expectations helpful? Our intentions or expectations are important because they can influence our experiences. Rather than go to an event or a class expecting to be bored, go expecting to learn. We've talked about how using "maybe" can help yet still be a believable way to move towards a more positive mindset. For example: "School is boring." Can become, "Maybe I will learn something today."
2. Am I being an active learner? Learning requires participation. Get engaged in the lesson by asking questions, taking notes, and listening! An engaged mind is far more entertained. Students can challenge themselves during subjects they are less interested in by taking the best notes possible during that time or asking more questions and getting as curious as possible.
3. Is the way I am "showing up" helpful? Think about the energy you bring with you or how you "Show Up!" Sitting up and facing the speaker increases our focus and attention. On the flip side, slouching and avoiding eye contact can actually make us feel tired and bored. Consider telling your child about some projects at work or around the house that you don't necessarily enjoy and how and why you get them done anyway. After all, even dream jobs have parts of them that are less than fun and being able to get the work done is a necessary skill.
It's easy for kids to think adults have all the fun and for adults to think we left fun in childhood. Let your kids know your favorite and least favorite parts of the day and how you manage it all!
"Life is like a roller coaster. It has its ups and downs.
But it's your choice to scream or enjoy the ride." -Unknown
