Weekly Newsletter LaRusso & McKeon
Week of Aug. 6-9
ELA
This week we are using our artifacts to help us learn about inferencing. We are starting to learn about book clubs and will be working on citing evidence.
Math
In Math this week, we starting learning about ways to collect data. We turned our "dot plots" (see picture) into frequency charts, bar graphs, and line plots. We will learn more next week about collecting and using data. We will discuss the difference between Categorical Data (like your favorite ice cream or sport) and Numerical Data (like the number of people in your family or number of pages you read). We also started learned about Math Workshop and how it will work in our classroom. Finally, we learned a new game to practice our multiplication facts by completing a multiplication chart. Please see the video for directions on how to play and let me know if you would like some copies of the game board. It would be a great way to practice multiplication with your child and it is FUN!
PEAK: Roll a die Game
Homework (starting this FRIDAY)
Students will receive their homework for both Math and ELA each Friday. Homework is due the following Friday. Students have the option to turn in homework throughout the week to have anything that they have completed checked and receive feedback. This is a wonderful opportunity for students!
Also, please remind your child that it is their responsibility to charge their laptop each night. Try to find a spot where they can plug it in each night. I recommend just placing their book bag near an outlet and charging it right in the bag.
Classroom needs
Thank you SO much for all of the generous donations for our classrooms. A few items that we could still use are bandaids and candy for treats (peanut free please).
