Schlegel Safari Newsletter
May 2022
Schlegel Families,
We are all struggling with the horrific tragedy at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. The Schlegel staff met before the day began to support each other in preparation for the arrival of our students. We had a few students mention the tragedy to individual teachers. Mrs. Riesenberger, Miss Murray, Mrs. Hesla, and I checked in with classes throughout the day.
Parents have asked what should I tell my child or how should I respond. Our suggestion is to approach the conversation with attentive listening and responses that are answering the question versus giving many details. Children look to the grown ups for reassurance, love and safety. Here are a few suggestions from National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) titled Talking to Children about Violence: Tips for Parents and Educators. Please take the time to read the message from Superintendent Brian Neenan for more information, CLICK HERE.
The Schlegel Staff is here for our students and their families. Please call the Main Office if you would like to be connected to one of the staff members for support.
Thank you for your ongoing support,
Dr. Francine Leggett and Kate Hesla
