Déjà Vu Or Did It Even Happen?

Why I Chose Déjà Vu

I'm interested in déjà vu because I feel like I experience it a lot and i'd just like to undertsand it more. This research is going to help me understand it and link it to to memories when it occurs. I'm hoping that doing this project will help me and maybe others find out if what they experience is significant in their lives.

Déjà Vu

French for "already seen".

Can be defined as having the strong sensation that an event or experience currently being experienced has already been experienced in the past.

The Brain & Déjà Vu

Although scientists don't know where deja vu comes from, all memory rememberance theories require two processes called familiarity and recollection. When these processes get out if sync, we experience the weird deja vu feeling that we've experienced the event before.

Research and Psychologists

Since deja vu occurs randomly to anybody it's very hard to study but Sigmund Freud theorized that the deja vu experiences are from repressed memories related to an event that people no longer can acess as regular memory.

Interesting Things

- There are three different types of deja vu like experiences you can have; déjà vecu (already experienced), déjà senti (already felt) and déjà visité (already visited).

- Scientists have discovered that the same neurological defect happens in the brain when you get a hypnogogic jerk and when you experience deja vu.
