Principal's Report
A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
A Word From Dr. Clune
Many thanks for your patience as we work to safely manage student drop-offs and pick-ups. Please park in a spot to avoid the car line spilling out of the parking lot onto the loop around campus.. When the line overflows onto the loop around campus it inhibits the buses thus making for a longer dismissal process. Please wait to be directed to come around to the bus loading area after our 2nd run buses have completely left.
Students are highly encouraged to bring in their own personal water bottles (no glass) as the water fountains are turned off. We do offer water bottle refilling stations near the gym and cafeteria. it is also helpful if students have their own headphones or earbuds.
Be sure to watch the video below for parents from Dr. Rodriguez. It reviews navigating virtual learning at MS East. You can contact her at nbowen@pvsd.org if you have any questions after watching the video.
Please contact the main office if you have any questions or concerns.

American Education Week
American Education Week
American Education Week is celebrated the week before Thanksgiving and exists to celebrate the “team of people who work in our nation’s public schools.” This year, we’re taking a different approach to celebrating this important week since we aren't permitting visitors in our schools currently. With that in mind, we’d like to celebrate the different members of our team each day through a virtual spirit week. Whether your child is in school or attending remotely, take a photo of you or your child participating in the day and send it to jlester@pvsd.org for sharing on social media. We look forward to seeing what you send!
Monday, Nov. 16: TEAM HEALTHY
Honor our Food Service Department employees who provide us with nutritious meals by eating your fruits and veggies or wearing something food-related.
Tuesday, Nov. 17: TEAM SAFETY & TRANSPORTATION
Wear orange and brown to show your support for the maintenance and custodial workers who do so much to keep our buildings safe and clean! We also recognize our bus drivers who work diligently to safely transport our students to and from school each day.
Wednesday, Nov. 18: TEAM LEARN
Write a note to your teacher telling him/her one thing you’ve learned this year or appreciated about your class!
Thursday, Nov. 19: TEAM COACHES
Break out your Viking apparel to support the administrators of our district who are helping lead us through uncharted territory.
Friday, Nov. 20: TEAM CHEERLEADERS
Wave your pom poms or make a sign to thank the secretaries and paraprofessionals who provide the support and positive attitude we need so much in this unusual year!
Another part of American Education Week will be "pop-up" visits by administrators who will teach certain classes for a day. Don't be surprised if your child receives a lesson from someone on the administrative team next week!
Counseling Groups
The Counseling Center will be offering groups to students starting the next marking period (11/12). Groups are a great way to make social connections and learn skills students will need in life. Students may attend virtually or in person. Below are the offerings for the second marking period.
- Loss 2 (lunch Thursdays) For anyone who has lost any loved one and doesn't want to commit to the full year Loss group.
- Staying Social While Social Distancing (lunch Fridays) for anyone who is having difficulties building or maintaining friendships while we are socially distancing at school or virtually
- Study Skills (ADVISORY Thursdays) for anyone who wants additional help organizing or studying.
Groups are held once a week for one marking period. Please contact Mrs. Hildreth with questions or to sign up your student for any or all of the groups (khildreth@pvsd.org)
Winter Sports
Online registration for the winter sports season is now open at Planet High School and must be completed by Monday, Nov. 9. Information on how to register can be found on the Athletic Department website. Student physicals must be dated June 1, 2020 or later.
Currently, winter sports tryouts/practices are scheduled to begin for High School on Friday, Nov. 20th and Middle School Nov. 30th, however this date is certainly subject to change based on the conditions of the pandemic and orders issued by the Pioneer Athletic Conference, the PIAA, or the state.
Winter sports at the high school include boys and girls basketball, boys and girls swimming, wrestling and boys and girls winter track. At the middle school level, we offer boys and girls basketball and wrestling.
If your child participated in a sport this fall, registration is still needed for the winter season. You will need to log on to their profile in Planet High School, go to Athletic Forms, select a winter sport, and fill out Section 7: Re-Certification by Parent/Guardian(Winter). Once approved, forms will say "Complete", and the profile will read Athletic Forms: Approved
Report Cards
To access your child's report card in ParentVUE, follow the directions found on page 44 in the ParentVUE user guide. There will be a report card representation in ParentVUE, as well as the ability to print a PDF version.
If you do not have a ParentVUE account set up yet, please contact the Help Desk to get one set up: helpdesk@pvsd.org.
PV Cares Holiday Drive
Perkiomen Valley School District is proud to support families in need this holiday season through the fifth annual PV Cares Holiday Drive, which will be held Nov. 16 through Dec. 11 at each school.
Toys and gift cards are being collected to support the Daily Bread Food Pantry and the PV Power Packs program, both of which are serving PV families during the holiday season.
Instead of providing a specific “wish list” this year for toys, the pantry is inviting donors to provide toys, gift cards, or books that are similar to what they would purchase for their own children. As an example, if you are the parent of a fourth-grade boy, consider donating a toy or book that your child would want to play with. The pantry’s goal is to provide every child with three toys and a book.
Donations can be dropped off at any school until Dec. 11 and placed in the large cans that will be located in the vestibule of each school’s main entrance. We thank you in advance for your generosity this holiday season.
If you are a family who is need of assistance this holiday season, bring this flyer to the Daily Bread Food Pantry or say you are with the “PV Cares” program. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, only one family member at a time may shop at the pantry starting Wednesday, Nov. 25, between these hours:
Wednesdays: 9 to 11 a.m.
Thursdays: 6 to 8 p.m.
Saturdays: 9 to 11 a.m.
Daily Bread is located at 3938 Ridge Pike, Collegeville, PA 19426. PV Power Packs families may also reach out with requests to powerpacks@pvsd.org by Dec. 4.
Library News
We have exciting news from the Library Learning Commons! Students are now able to place a hold through our library online catalog and check out books!! Below is a document with detailed instructions for how to do this. Once the library staff receives a HOLD request, they will email the student (and the homeroom teacher) to notify them that their book is ready to be picked up in the library. Recently, many new awesome books have been added to our library collection...please remind your child to take advantage of this!! Feel free to email our librarian, Mrs. Kratz, at gmkratz@pvsd.org with any questions.
PVSD Foundation
The Perkiomen Valley Foundation is sponsoring the Boon Fundraiser again this year. Your purchases will help to support the district and its teachers during this challenging time. Go to boonsupply.com/57856.
