Newsletter 12, Week 3 Term 3
Waiau School ⎪ 11th August 2022
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora e te whānau,
What an exciting fortnight, warm balmy Norwester's and then a lovely picturesque snowfall. As an ‘urbanite’ I thought the scenery looked amazing with the covering of snow on the hills surrounding Waiau, but of course, I didn’t have to worry about stock, feeding out and shelter. A long weekend and then straight back into our normal routines as the days begin to draw out.
An annual highlight for students and families at Waiau School is our ski trip, and by the response we have had for volunteers, it is a very popular outing. Thank you to our Board of Trustees for providing the additional funds so we can have a bonus second day up at Mt Lyford this season. I can’t wait to see our students whizzing down the slopes.
Keep warm and dry,
Megan

Room 2 Update
Our new Inquiry is ‘The Circle of Life’ and we will be looking at life cycles of creatures big and small, as well as the odd plant or two!
This week Room 2 students have been practising their public speaking skills as they share their Matariki inquiry projects. We have some very confident presenters and we are looking forward to seeing these great skills being extended next year on stage when we do our whole school production. It has been exciting to see the variety of creative ways that our students have chosen to share their learning with their classmates. We have had animations, video presentations, google slides, posters and a diorama, to name a few.

Attendance
This Winter a variety of health conditions have impacted our attendance rates. This is to be expected in the current climate, however, we have noticed that recently the number of unexplained absences has risen. We need to know the reason for their absence so we know that they are safe and can code the absence accordingly.
Please help us to keep an accurate track of reasons for non attendance buy either

Learning hard packs
These packs of learning materials were provided way back in Term 1 and we would like them to be sent back to school so that we can update them. Please send the plastic zip lock bag of school resources back by next Thursday. Your child can keep the photocopied activities- we just require the reading books and maths books back.
