The Copeland PTO Newsletter
President's Corner by Cree Sanford
I hope you all had a very fun and restful Spring Break! Can you believe we only have about 2 ½ months left in this school year!! Man, did that go by fast! As usual we are busy at work here at Copeland! This Friday, March 23, 2018 starting at 6:30pm will be our 25th Anniversary Community Movie Night and Silent Auction!! Also, special guest Arnstar from Blazer Fresh will be in attendance! So come out and join us for this FREE fun family event!
This is the time of year when we start thinking about next year and filling our open chairman positions. Copeland has something for everyone and WE NEED YOU!!! Please take a look at the open positions that we have and consider taking a step up or even into the volunteer world at Copeland. Copeland is a fabulous school, but we are only as fabulous as our volunteers make us!! We need help with the following positions:
Marquee – Chairman/Co-Chairmen update the school marquee on a weekly basis. Chairman/Co-Chairmen are responsible for checking with PTO and school administration to post correct and timely information each week.
Grade Level Liaison (5th grade only) - Liaisons are responsible for coordinating and overseeing their respective grade level activities and reporting progress to the VIPS Coordinator. Liaisons are encouraged to attend the activities, which include grade level programs, K and 5th grade recognition meetings, Field Days, etc.
Writing Camp for 4th grade – this takes about 3-4 weeks of time right before the 4th graders take the writing portion of the STAAR test. This is typically handled by a 4thgrader parent
Memory Book for 5th grade – this is a special sort of through the years book for our 5th graders. They talk about their favorite memories at Copeland, favorite teachers, and we get to see their Elementary career in pictures from Kinder through 5th grade. We need someone to help organize this. (a 5th grade parent is requested).
Multicultural Day Chair – Details to TBD
If you see anything that sparks your interest or know of a friend that would be up for the challenge, please feel free to contact me.
Any open board positions will be filled via executive board vote/placement per our bylaws as this is not an election year for our PTO.
As always thank you all for all that you do and for keeping Copeland an awesome place for all of our kids to learn and grow!
Our Family Movie Night celebrating Copeland's 25th Anniversary is Tomorrow night!

Volunteer Opportunities
The year is flying by, but we also always need volunteers and helpers year round. If you do have ability to volunteer on a more regular basis, there are plenty of opportunities. You can learn about SRC (Science Resource Center), which is an excellent resource not only for the students, but for parents too. If you are able to volunteer for this, I promise you will learn something too! Please contact our SRC Chair Selina Sauceda at selina.sauceda@gmail.com for more info.
The library always needs volunteers, as do art and music. Please let me know if you want more information.
If you have any questions or comments regarding our VIPS program or would like to volunteer, please contact me at 713-829-0638 or mmcgah@gmail.com.
