Etiquette Tip of the Week

A week ago, I saw someone sneeze without covering her mouth. That happens. Sometimes the sneeze sneaks up on you and you don't have time to cover your mouth appropriately. This person unfortunately sprayed the ATM machine in front of her. She was also in the lobby of a hospital and wearing scrubs...but I digress.

It's a fungal jungle out there. Hand sanitizer and a small package of anti-bacterial wipes are not just for people with children. They are for people in business. If you shake a lot of hands at an event, wash your hands after, or use hand sanitizer. (But try not to whip out the hand sanitizer in front of the person whose hand you just shook.) Etiquette is about consideration of others and using these products helps protect others as well.

Avoid sneezing on ATMs, vending machines, shared workplace coffee pots, doorknobs, gas station pumps or any other public dispensers. If you do, put some hand sanitizer on a paper towel and wipe it off or use an anti-bacterial wipe. If you sneeze into your hand or a tissue, wash your hands. If you sneeze into your elbow, launder those clothes. Take care of others, while you are taking care of yourself.
