Dear Families,
Election Day is Monday. There is an override on the ballot that impacts SPS. If you have not had the opportunity to join one of Superintendent Crozier’s budget presentations, you can watch the Budget Forum Community Session video and you will find plenty of information in the SPS Budget Book, as well as in the Presentations and Plans section of the SPS website’s School Committee page. As always, all of the School Committee meetings are recorded and available on Sudbury TV. Yes, I’m looking to win an award for the most links present in one paragraph.
I’ll only share one link in this paragraph and that is the link to the Parent Placement form. As a reminder, you DO NOT need to complete one of these forms, but if you have important information to share with the placement team, please submit it by April 6. Please know that we take class placement extremely seriously and we spend weeks and weeks trying to get it right. We consider the needs of each student regardless of whether or not you complete a form.
And now for a paragraph without a link! MCAS testing starts next week. Our fifth graders will be taking MCAS on Thursday and Friday. For our families with students in grades 3-5, please do not schedule appointments that cause students to come late or leave early on the days they are scheduled to take MCAS. Also, please make sure children get a good night sleep before testing days and eat a healthy breakfast. We all do better when we’re well-fed, well-hydrated, and well-rested.
MCAS Schedule -
Grade 3
ELA - April 10th & 11th Math - May 4th & 5th

Next week we are celebrating our bus and van drivers. Many students have written cards that will be shared with our drivers on Wednesday during a special breakfast. We love to look for ways to show appreciation to others and show our Core Value of caring. Thank you to all our students who participated.
We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Warmly,
Annette Doyle
We need volunteers to help make our Auction as successful as possible! Please sign up for a 30-minute shift or to donate a bottle of wine for our Wine Pull raffle! https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10C054AACAF2CA4F49-peter
The library is looking for pool noodles! If you have any, please bring them in!
FAQ About The Science Fair
Hi Noyes Parents,
You have probably heard of the upcoming Peter Noyes Science Fair! We just wanted to send you some information and some frequently asked questions.
When is the science fair?
April 12th, 6-8, at Peter Noyes
What is the science fair?
The science fair is an opportunity for kids to be the scientists. Between now and the science fair, they will develop a scientific question, do an experiment, and create a presentation to display what they learned. The scientific questions do not have to be complex! In many cases, we're recommending that kids think about what they've learned in their science lessons so far this year and replicate a fun experiment they did in class, or maybe explore a question that their lessons raised. We have a document of grade-specific examples attached to the email.
Can I do my experiment at the school the night of the science fair?
You should have already completed the experiment at least once before the night of the fair, so that you are able to write about your results on your poster board. If your experiment is not extremely messy or too large, you may bring it in to display the night-of along with your poster board.
Can I use dynamite in my experiment?
Nope!
Can I explode something in a different way?
Nope!
Can I do elephant toothpaste?
If you have your caregivers' permission, sure, you can do elephant toothpaste at home and take pictures of what you did and how it all went then paste those pictures on your poster board. Elephant toothpaste is WAY too messy to do at school on the night of the fair.
Can I make a baking soda volcano?
Sure! If it's not too messy you can even bring it in to display on the night of. But make sure you display it in something that can contain the mess.
Can I make something that shoots?
We will not permit anything that looks like a gun. If you would like to make some kind of physics-based machine that pops something out (like a little ball, etc) that is fine--as long as it does not projectile.
Can I do a video game presentation?
Whatever question you explore has to have something scientific behind it. So you cannot just do a presentation explaining what Minecraft is. If you want to know, say, if the height that a video game character jumps is possible for a real human, then that is a scientific question (physics, human physiology) that we would love to see the answer to!
Can I cook or bake something, since cooking is chemistry?
Unfortunately, you cannot bring in any food to share with your friends and reviewers at the fair. But cooking and baking is a great way to explore chemistry and the effects of heat, so you can do those types of experiments at home, take pictures, and display those pictures on your poster board!
Do I have to do a question from the list?
No! You can explore any kind of scientific question you want. Wonder what makes the sky blue? Wonder why grass doesn't grow in the winter? Wonder how rock candy is formed? Those are all scientific questions. The most important thing for this science fair is that you are able to explain the WHY behind whatever experiment you do.
Do I have to do the science fair? Are there prizes involved?
Nope and nope! We're doing this science fair for the fun of it.
What else is happening at the science fair?
Parents, friends, teachers, and other volunteers will be coming around to talk to you about the experiments you did. And we will have tables with demonstrations from real scientists! Play with rocks, look through a telescope, and more!
How do I sign up? And can I work with a partner?
Sign up here! (And, parents, sign up to volunteer here!) You can work in a group of up to three students, and your partners do not have to be in your class.
I have more questions. Who should I reach out to?
Email PeterNoyesScienceFair@gmail.com with any other questions you might have!
