WELLNESS Happenings
September-October 2018
Family Wellness Night was a BRAIN BONANZA
Information Galore
Informational posters took visitors on a training journey with Mrs. Torrance to learn the important role various parts of our brain plays in order to accomplish tasks and be strong in every way. If you would like to see the posters or watch the video clips of Mrs. Torrance's story, check the WELLNESS Canvas Page Brain/Body Module. https://zcs.instructure.com/courses/15361

Doing a little dancing to activate their cerebellum.

Wondering what all of the colorful tape in the hallway is for? This poster explains the benefits of novel movement.
September Skills and Activities
Hard to believe we are at the end of the first quarter already! The beginning of the year has been filled with practicing general classroom and safety procedures as well as learning how to be STRONG SUPERHEROES! I can confidently say we are in the groove! Our time flies by but I do like seeing them twice a week! I hold out hope that someday soon I will see them EVERY DAY for wellness! #MOVETOLEARN #LEARNTOMOVE
We will be HEALTH LITERATE TOO
Check out the following video to see WHY we must also be HEALTH LITERATE! Students will be learning how to make healthy choices that will help fuel their body. I often refer to their bodies as a car. If we want it to get us where we need to go, we have to take care of it and put the proper fuel in it! Being PHYSICALLY LITERATE and HEALTH LITERATE will set them on the path to any destination they desire!

How are you?
Students "Check In" with their emotions before beginning their day in Wellness.
Obstacles
Students used their movement skills to travel through various obstacles. Learning to move our bodies in different ways develops our physical literacy as well as strengthens our functional movement patterns.
Express Yourself
Students reflect and share their STRONG.
PUMPKINS NEEDED
Mrs. Torrance has some fitness fun in store during the month of October! If you would be willing to donate a 2-5 pound pumpkin or a few, we would greatly appreciate it. I would love to have at least 1 pumpkin per student in my classes (Maximum class size is 28). If you would be willing to donate one or a few, please e-mail me at dtorrance@zcs.k12.in.us on or before October 5th. Also, you may want to pick up a couple extra for home and join in on some fun with the Pumpkin Dice Fitness Challenge! Posted on Canvas. https://zcs.instructure.com/courses/15361
