A message from New Principal, Bilee Jo Grable!
Dear PHS Students and Families,
My name is Bilee Jo Grable, and I am privileged to have the opportunity to support the continued success of Piper High School as your new building principal.
As you may know, I am not new to the district, but I am new to Piper High School. I am excited to see the faces of the students that walked through our Piper Kindergarten doors years ago and meet the new faces that have joined our Piper Family along the way. I may have to look up to quite a few of them, but it will be something I am looking forward to on the first day of school!
I am from and still live in the Kansas City area. You can say that I am a girl from the “Dotte!” I am married to Jeff Grable, and we have three wonderful kids, Brooke (28), Hunter Jo (24), Beau (21), and a grandson Linkon (1). Since Jeff and I are empty nesters, we spend time together watching our grandson or caring for our farm. Taking care of cattle has been a learning experience. Hat’s off to all our farmers!!
Professionally, I am an accomplished educator in my 26th year of service to the profession. Of those 26 years, this is my 12th year in administration. In my 11 years as a school administrator, I served as the Assistant Principal at Piper Elementary and Piper East Elementary for 2 ½ years. Previously, I was the PROUD principal at Piper Prairie Elementary!
During my leadership at Piper Prairie Elementary, the building received the Governor’s Achievement Award in 2015, recognizing the Top 5% Elementary Schools in Kansas, and the 2020 High Exemplary National Blue Ribbon Award recognizing the top 5 schools in the state of Kansas. I continue serving on Dr. Randy Watson’s principal advisory committee for Kansas this year.
My leadership style is personable, authentic, and genuine. I am committed to the success of every child, and my drive and will to provide equitable access to all learners is what moves me to come to work each morning.
I firmly believe that education plays a significant role in the future of every individual. It starts with the relationships with all stakeholders, the curriculum taught in schools, and data-informed instructional decision-making.
Please know that I value home/school communication. It is vital and plays an integral role in each student’s success. I encourage you to contact us if/when the need arises and to stay in the know about your child’s studies, assignments, assessments, social-emotional wellness, school activities, and other events and happenings.
Your child receives the best education when you, our dedicated teachers, and staff work as a team. A parent’s enthusiasm, support, and involvement inspire children to do their best; and a teacher's ability to teach what they need to learn. Together we can achieve beautiful things!
Again, I am privileged to have the opportunity to support the continued success of Piper High School as your building principal. Piper High School is a place alive with energy, enthusiasm, and a high standard of excellence! It is indeed a place where opportunities abound!
“It’s always a great day to be a Pirate!”
Sincerely,
Bilee Jo Grable
Excellence can be attained if you…
…CARE more than others think is wise
…RISK more than others think is safe
…DREAM more than others think is practical
…EXPECT more than others think is possible

A message from New Assistant Principal, Robert Cave!
Piper High School Community,
Hello! My name is Robert Cave and I am the new assistant principal here at Piper High School. Before I introduce myself, I would first like to thank you; the welcome I have received and the kindness and culture I have seen and felt have shown me what an amazing place this is and how lucky I am to be here. I can’t wait to get started helping Piper students reach for and achieve their highest goals and aspirations.
I currently live in Olathe, coming from a career in the Olathe School District where I taught for 23 years. During my time I taught in both the junior high and high school environments, teaching Language Arts, Journalism, and creating and teaching the freshmen cohort of the Distinguished Scholars Academy. During my time in Olathe, I was heavily involved in school leadership, including leading Building Leadership Teams, being a department chair, writing curriculum and instruction, and conducting training across the district. I was also honored in 2014 to win the Norman I. Reist excellence in teaching award.
I have been married to my wife Jaleah for 21 years and we have two boys, Rawlan (16) and Declan (13) who are heavily involved in band, orchestra, theater, and sports, keeping us busy and on our toes! We also have two rescue dogs, Sam and Sparky, that we think pretty much run our house. They are all looking forward to seeing all the amazing things we will accomplish this year at Piper High School.
Although this is my first year in administration, I believe that my years of experience in secondary education and knowledge of instruction and best practices have prepared me for taking this next step of my career in education towards administration. I look forward to working with teachers and students to build critical relationships that facilitate growth and achievement and hope to facilitate strategic avenues and ideas that will help to innovate and reinvigorate daily classroom strategies and lessons. Most of all, I am excited to be part of a building and team that strives to create a safe and secure school that thrives in a climate and culture of encouragement, affirmation, and success with students, staff, and community stakeholders.
Again, thank you for welcoming me to the Piper community. 20 years, three schools, and now two districts on, I still find that I am passionate about student learning and achievement and I strive each day to exemplify this belief as a building leader here at Piper High School. I can’t wait to get started as a part of PIRATE NATION! It’s always a great day to be a Pirate!
Sincerely,
Robert M. Cave, Jr.
We have a lot of new faces in our building!

Wednesday August 3rd (5pm-8pm)
Seniors are asked to wear business attire for these photos
Males: collared shirt and tie, no t-shirts

Make-up Senior Pictures: Seniors who miss next week will be able to take their picture on the 23rd with grades 9-11 as long as they come dressed up.
Freshmen and New Student Orientation
Freshmen and New Student Orientation will be August 10 th from 7:30-10:30 A.M. This will be an
opportunity for all new incoming students to learn about PHS, tour the building, find their
classes, and be welcomed into the PHS Family!
Enrollment is done through Skyward!
All students, new & and returning, need to complete enrollment through skyward. The BOE has a
policy for what is required for proof of residency. You must pay the enrollment fee of $110 and provide 3 items of proof of residency: a mortgage statement, lease agreement, one utility bill, property tax document, or a driver’s license are acceptable documents to consider.
Please make sure you get this completed to ensure your child will be able to start school on
time.
Nutrition Services for 2022.2023 School Year
On March 10, 2022, the U.S. Senate passed the Omnibus Appropriations bill that funds the federal government through September. This bill does not extend pandemic child nutrition waivers for school meal programs which are set to expire at the completion of the 2021-2022 school year term. This means that after our last day of school, May 23rd, USDA will no longer have authority to provide allowance for schools to serve free meals to all students or extend the broad regulatory flexibility Child Nutrition Programs that school districts have relied on for the last two years.
As a result, School Nutrition Program Free and Reduced-Price Meal Applications will be required to determine eligibility for free and reduced-price school meals for the 2022-2023 School Year. Look for an email sent that was sent to all families from Superintendent, Dr. Dain, back in May with a link to an online free and reduced application through KSDE Child Nutrition & Wellness. If a family completes the application but does not qualify for free or reduced lunch, the child will be charged for meals eaten at school. If you have any further questions or concerns please contact Sarah Dunn at the District Office at 913-721-2088 or sdunn@piperschools.us

Piper High School, North 107 Street, Kansas City, KS, USA
Piper Athletics and Activities are kicking off soon!
The Annual Fall Sports Parent/Coach Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug 10th, @ 6:00 pm in the HS gym. Please attend to get a chance to meet head coaches and get information for the fall season.
Physicals: All athletes must have a physical on file at the High School before the first practice on Aug 15th to be able to participate. Physicals must be dated after May 1st, 2022. You can also email your physicals to langello@piperschools.us
Free Physicals: Thursday, Aug 11th. Physicals will be limited to HS students only due to scheduled physicals dates during the school day. Sign-up for physical time slots will be sent the first week of August.
There is no school supply list
Piper High School does not provide school supply lists before the first day of school. Since
every high school student has a unique schedule, teachers will let students know the supplies
they need for their individual classes on the first few days of class. Our suggestion for the first
days of school is to send your student with the basics: paper, notebooks, binders, pens/pencils.
These basics will get them through the first few days, no problem!
Yearbooks from last school year
If you ordered a yearbook last year, you can pick it up anytime from 7am-3:30pm at the CTE building (old elementary east building) with Mrs. Gatson.
