A Note from Mrs. Johansen
Dear Sandburg Families,
I have included a few updates in this newsletter for families.
Picture Day is scheduled for October 2nd. Please click on the link to complete the online orders through Lifetouch.
- Our Mental Health Awareness Presentations will take place this fall as indicated in my email earlier this week. There is a presentation on September 26th for all parents. Please review this flyer for more information.
- Congratulations to the Sandburg athletes who are participating in our Fall Sports: Cross Country, Girls Basketball, and Boys Soccer. For more information about their schedules, check out the Sandburg Sports Website and Link to Sports Calendar at CSJH. Our coaches do their best to communicate any changes quickly. We appreciate your patience.
- Students who are interested in the Young Entrepreneurs program should read more at https://www.palatinechamber.com/yea/. September 18th is the due date for registration.
Here is a link to the Sandburg Bell Schedule as a reference. Students will use this bell schedule and their own schedule to move through their classes each day. Teachers will be taking attendance for classes at the beginning of the school day, and for each class period.
Our school staff contact list is updated and available on the D15 website. Feel free to print it and keep it handy in the case you need to get in touch with any of our staff throughout the year.
Have a great weekend!

Student Absence Reminders
We understand that students occasionally may be absent from school for valid reasons: for example, illness, death in the immediate family, family emergency, observance of a religious holiday, situations beyond the control of the student, mental or behavioral health reasons, or circumstances that cause parents reasonable concern for the safety or health of the student. Students who are absent for these reasons will be given an opportunity to make up missed school work.
Taking students out of school for vacations is discouraged and is considered an unexcused absence.
Over the next few weeks, attendance and tardy letters will be sent to families of students who are at risk of being chronically truant. This is a standard practice in all District 15 schools. If you receive a letter and you believe that it's in error, please contact Mrs. Johansen. Please reach out if you need assistance. The Sandburg Student Service Department is happy to help parents and students at any time.
A note from the Sandburg PTSA
CSJH Parents -
Thank you so much to everyone that has helped get the ball rolling by setting up Snap! Raise accounts! However, currently less than 2% of students are signed up and ready to go. Without significant additional support, we will not be able to support all of the events currently planned for this year.
Our campaign starts on Tuesday, so it is essential that everyone gets logged in this weekend. As a reminder the steps are:
Create an account using your child’s first/last name and photo. Do not use your student’s @ccsd15.net email.
Enter email addresses for friends, relatives, or co-workers that might be willing to support your child. (Please do not use emails for other students or teachers)
That’s it! Emails will be sent to supporters on Tuesday morning. All students that enter at least 10 email addresses will earn free food at the Fall Fest on Friday, October 13th!
Thank you for your support,
Christine Love
