Principal's Update: November
Hello Rawson Community!
It's hard to believe that we're turning the page to November! Although the weather this week may feel like an extension of summer rather than an autumn cool-down, things will change fast. We appreciate all that you do to keep our students warm at recess by sending them with the appropriate outerwear. Please label all of it (with a last name). This will make it easer to return lost items.
As we near Thanksgiving, I will ask our students to take time to reflect on ways in which they are thankful. I challenge you to do the same. I know that I am grateful everyday to be a part of our Rawson community, made up of phenomenal staff, families, and of course, our students!
Thank you for all that you do,
Nick Anton

Artsonia!
View your student's artistic journey!
We are excited to announce that we are bringing Artsonia on board at Rawson to expand our student and family art experience! Artsonia is an online program that has many benefits, including allowing families to view their student's artworks anytime, anywhere. The site creates a digital portfolio of all images uploaded so that you or your student can view all of the artwork they have created in school and read descriptions of the projects from Mrs. Craft. Older students can even add their own titles and artist statements to their images. You can get connected to your student's profile by clicking this link! There may not be much to view yet, but keep checking back throughout the year as more works of art are finished and uploaded.
Before and After School Care Staff Needed!
Volunteers at Rawson
Just as a reminder, all of our volunteers need to complete a background check to serve in the school. That process is online and only takes a few days to clear. If you have an interest, please reach out to your student’s teacher to let him or her know, and feel free to suggest specific ways you’d like to help. We’re excited for the opportunity to have parents back in the school – not only for your help but for you to see the excellent education your student receives!
Speak Up, Speak Out Wisconsin
The School District of South Milwaukee partners with SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT (SUSO) hosted by The Wisconsin Department of Justice. SUSO is a comprehensive, one-stop place to turn to with your concerns regarding school safety. A facet of the Resource Center that we are particularly pleased to share with Wisconsin students and parents is the threat reporting system. The SUSO threat reporting system is available 24/7 and is free to all. Students can submit a school safety concern by accessing the app on their Chromebook or by visiting speakup.widoj.gov. Resource Center staff work around-the-clock to respond to reports and to deploy a response locally by communicating directly with school administrators, law enforcement and counselors.
Job opportunities at Rawson!
Traffic Reminder: Drop-off / Pick-up
-15th Avenue (West entrance)
-Rawson Avenue (East Playground-side entrance)
*All students and families that are dropping or picking up on Rawson Avenue from the south side of Rawson Ave. MUST cross at the intersections. Due to the high volume of traffic on Rawson Avenue, this is an important safety requirement.
Traffic Enhancements
Recently, we have asked the city to add the following safety precautions.
- A crosswalk has been added across Maple, along 15th Avenue
- A second crosswalk has been added across the alley leading up to door two, off of Maple.
- The brush has been cleared to make the stop sign in the alley (near door 2) clearly visible.
- Additional signage will be added, emphasizing the crosswalks
Please make sure to obey all traffic and cross-walk laws at all times. SMPD will be patrolling the area during these high-density times to ensure everyone's safety.
WOLF OF THE WEEK WINNERS
Wolf of the Week is an internal school award which celebrates the demonstration of positive character traits by our Rawson students. Our awesome Rawson staff will be selecting a variety of students per week who have continually demonstrated our PAWSitive expectations of responsibility, respect, and safety.
*Please keep in mind, these winners are not an exhaustive list. We have many children who consistently demonstrate strong character throughout their school day!
Congratulations to last month's Wolves! 🎉
