Chesterton High School Dunes Day 2019
On September 17, Chesterton High School had the opportunity to partner with the Indiana Dunes National Park and the Duneland Chamber of Commerce to take an all school field trip to the Indiana Dunes to give CHS students a unique learning experience. In addition, the school attempted to break the World Record for the world's largest field trip. A total of 1,721 students and adults attended the field trip. This fell short of the world record of 1,872 students and adults attending a field trip. Although the school did not break the world record, they were able to provide CHS students with a learning experience they could not get in a classroom setting, and an opportunity to partner with many organizations and community members in the process. This was a great day for the CHS students, staff and volunteers. Special thanks to the people involved in this project:
Park Rangers from the Indiana Dunes National Park
- Kimberly Swift, Bruce Rohe, and Joe Gruzalski
Duneland Chamber of Commerce
- Maura Durham and Beth Luncsford
Duneland Employees
- Lynne Jenks - processed 150+ background checks
- Tammy Watkins, Catherine Brown - prepared 500+ lunches
- Cathy Forszt, Kim Bogue - transportation pick up and drop offs for everyone attending the field trip ( a total of 56 bus routes to the Dunes) while also coordinating a 4th grade field trip.
- CHS teachers for preparing over 120 individual field trip

Community Partnerships Enhance Learning
Each year, all Duneland Elementary fourth grade students embark on a two-day, one-night learning experience called Frog in the Bog at the Dunes Learning Center with their teachers.
This unique trip is made possible through a partnership between the Dunes Learning Center and through grants from the Flora Richardson Foundation.
Dunes Learning Center programs utilize a hands-on, interdisciplinary approach offering outdoor experiences and minds-on discovery to engage a variety of learning styles. The learning adventure begins at school with materials and activities provided by the Dunes Learning Center. At camp, students explore a classroom without walls where lessons come to life in nature. Follow-up activities allow students to transfer their experiences back into their studies, school and community. View a slideshow of the fourth grade visits.

Have you been thinking about joining the Chesterton High School Alumni Association, but just haven't gotten around to it? Or, are you wondering why you should join this newly formed organization?
The CHS Alumni Association was formed to help support the enhancement of the Duneland School Corporations' educational processes and scholarships for graduating seniors at Chesterton High School. Your dues in the organization will help the group to continue to grow and present more and more of our graduates college assistance. We will also enshrine teachers, administration, support staff and graduates (alumni) into their respective ''Halls of Fame” at our annual banquet to be held in May of each year.
The Chesterton High School Alumni Association welcomes all former CHS alumni, and present and past faculty and staff members of the Duneland Schools to join the Association. Annual membership dues is $15 per alumni or Lifetime membership is a one-time fee of $150.00 minus your age. (Example: $150.00 less your age of 60 years would equal dues of $90.00).
