Kleb Intermediate
Edition 6: September 19th, 2021
Hello Bearcub families,
Happy Sunday! We hope that everyone was okay after last week's storm. The weather did not affect our building but it did change some of our campus events such as Fall Picture Day. We are currently working with the Lifetouch picture company to determine a make-up date for last week. As soon as we know the new day, we will send out the information via email and post it on social media for our parents, as well as, make announcements to our students on campus.
This week's newsletter contains information about campus events for this week and next. We have added a weekly calendar to the newsletter to see all of the extracurricular activities and there are some save the dates for others. The end of this week also marks the end of progress report 2, which is a big academic marker for any student that participates in a UIL activity as any grade below 70 in their courses could result in them being ineligible in the weeks to come. We would like to encourage all of our students whether in a UIL activity or not to review their academic progress through skyward and reach out to our teaching staff if they are in need of support. Students can also utilize den time on Wednesday's and Friday's during the week to visit teachers on campus to get support.
Finally, our kudos this week includes a shout out to our wonderful PTO and there is some updated information in the PTO corner about upcoming campus events and Spirit Nights.
We hope that everyone has a wonderful afternoon and as always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to reach out to our staff.

Perfect Attendance Update
Last week we received an update that in addition to not tying attendance to exemptions this year, we are also not recognizing perfect attendance/providing attendance awards for the 2021-22 school year. This is so we remain focused on the wellness and safety of our staff and students as a top priority and remain aligned with our health and safety protocols, namely that students who are ill should remain home until able to return to school.
Thank you for understanding this adjustment and please reach out if you have any questions.
Chromebook Rollout Information & Digital Support:
Kleb Intermediate is still a one-to-one campus for Chromebook devices. All returning Bearcubs should bring their devices with them each day to school. All of our 6th grade students or new to Kleb 7th & 8th grade students will need to pay the fee or deposit for the devices through Schoolcash in order to be issued a school device during Chromebook rollout. We will be rolling out Chromebooks each Wednesday for any student that has paid the fee/deposit by the Friday before. All returning Bearcubs that already has a device will also need to pay the Chromebook fee/deposit prior to October 10th in order to retain a working device.
Please contact our IT repair center if you have any questions.

District Bus Status Dashboard is Up and Running
In addition to the district's bus status dashboard, we will continue to have our Kleb bus slidedeck available with real time updates. Our Kleb bus slidedeck can be found on our Kleb homepage under Quicklinks found HERE.
The district also rolled out a Bus Status Dashboard and they shared the following information:
- We are building a Bus Status Dashboard, which clearly displays bus routes that are running more than 15 minutes behind normal. This dashboard will be available beginning Monday, August 30, 2021, on our district transportation page or accessed directly at https://kleinisd.net/busupdates. The dashboard will be updated during AM and PM bus routes daily, if there are delays. This will be a temporary solution to notify schools and families of delayed routes until the SMART tag system is fully operational.
- We are working with our SMART tag vendor to launch our bus route monitoring system, which should be launched by early October due to pandemic-caused hardware delays of equipment coming from China. We will continue to update you regarding SMART tag implementation.

Attendance Procedures
Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education—to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.
Did you know you can now report an absence in Skyward? Click HERE for more information.
Any student who is absent for the whole day is required to produce one of the following within 5 days of their absence(s):
· Parent Note
· Parent email (within 5 days of absence)
· Original medical note (copies or altered notes will not be accepted)
· Faxed notes must be sent from physician’s office
· Court note
· Official note for observance of approved religious holy days
***If a student is absent for part of the day for a doctor appointment, their absence will be coded as Section 25 (temporary absence) if the student follows the following procedure: The student must return the doctor excuse to the Attendance Office immediately upon returning to school to receive the Section 25 coding for their absence.
If a student does not produce one of the items listed above within the allotted timeframe, that absence will be considered unexcused and counted toward their total semester absences.
Klein ISD takes attendance very seriously, and we want to see your child succeed at Kleb. If you have any questions regarding attendance, please feel free to contact the attendance office at 832-249-5495 or reach out to your assistant principal.
Additional attendance information can be found starting on page 36 of the 20-21 Student Handbook.
