A Culture of Dignity
Granger ISD has great programs to address academic excellence and extracurricular activities, however Granger believes it is time to think differently about the mental wellness of children and teenagers in in order to enhance the education of the whole child. A new program titled Owning Up by Rosalind Wiseman will be implemented to help students find their voice on the tough topics of social cruelty, bulling, and injustice. Both students and teachers will be working together, owning up to their shortcomings, treating their selves and others with dignity, and learning to use their intelligence to constructively solve conflicts.
The lessons will go beyond the lecture to reach the student, giving them something to ponder, not just spilling back to instructors what they think wants to be heard. This will be done through various interactive, written, and technology involved activities.Teachers will reach within their own "baggage" to examine the reasons behind their actions, reactions, and thoughts.
Rest assure GISD teachers and staff feel the way the author does, which she states in her dedication page: To every adult who sees the heart, wisdom, and potential in every child. Together, we will dedicate ourselves to bring about an environment where students can learn, feel safe, and acquire emotional skills to be successful in life.
Book Title: Owning Up: Empowering Adolescents to Confront Social Cruelty, Bullying, and Injustice by Rosalind Wiseman

Educate the Vote
The primaries determine who gets to run for "the main" election. Metaphorically speaking, think of it like a televised singing competition. The contestants (candidates) sing and the judges (the people) decide who gets to move on to the final round and win the title. The judges must research and carefully evaluate who will represent their show. However, unlike the program, our communities would benefit from more than four "judges" having the word on what is important to the whole.
The honest truth: it takes time. And resources.
With this expressed, the Granger School Library invites you to use the computers to study the candidates and the propositions so individuals can make an informed decision on what will effect their schools and communities.
Please feel free to come by between 4:00 pm-6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 to take advantage of your right to make an educated vote.
