FHR Updates 8-14-2020
Teacher, Device Pick-up, Schedule, and More
Who Will Be My Child's Teacher?
Administration, counselors, and teachers created 20-21 class and teacher placements based upon parent input. When the decision was made to give parents and teachers a choice of hybrid or distance learning for the first semester, all class placements had to be recreated. Principal Jochems' priority with the new placements is teacher consistency for the year. Students are placed in classes based upon their family preference and the preference of the teacher. The only time a teacher might change is if a family preference changes after the first semester.
We are very fortunate at FHR because ALL of our classes, including our distance classes, have no more than 23 students with the majority of them being under 20 students. Our hybrid classes have between 6 and 12 students with our kindergarten hybrid classes having no more than 7 students.
All classes will begin in distance learning. As in the spring, the Daily Show will be sent out each morning at 7:30 AM. Following the Daily Show, all classes will participate in Morning Meetings.
When we are able to begin hybrid instruction, our goal is to maintain a sense of community between our distance learners and our hybrid learners. We will continue our Daily Show and Principal Jochems is working with our fabulous PTA to plan some virtual events.
For your planning purposes, a copy of our schedule is being shared with you. Our goal was to schedule common breaks, lunch, and recess time for families.

- For students new to FHR in grades 4 and 5 who do not have a device:

- Virtual Open House - Returning Students in grades 1 - 5, Wednesday, Sept. 2nd at 10:00 AM
- Virtual Back to School Night - Thursday, Sept. 10th, 5 PM and 6 PM - parents may attend either session
What is the Difference between Open House and Back to School Night?
- Open House is simply a time for students and parents to meet the teachers. This will be done virtually this year. There will be links posted later for all teachers and specialists. Students and parents are free to visit any of the Google Meets and say hello.
- Back to School Night is geared towards families and not children. This is a time for teachers to talk to parents virtually about what the distance learning will look like this fall compared to the spring. Attendance will be taken, students will be given grades, formal assessments will be administered to include the Standards of Learning state assessments in grades 3, 4, and 5 in the spring. It is critical for us to work collaboratively to ensure a successful year.
