CPES Staff E Newsletter October 19
Five Focus Areas
Safety and Security
Earthquake Drill--Will be this Wednesday morning. We will follow up with a whole school evacuation. Please talk with your kids ahead of time for what they would do in the event of an earthquake. We will announce this over the PA when to do this.
Bobcat Dash Safety Follow Up--I met with Mike Johnson, Steve Thompson (School Security Officer Coordinator), and Wes Wiles. We have developed a game plan for supervising students at the Bobcat Dash on Field 3 at Cherry Park. I will be following up with our Related Arts and Resource Support Staff members about roles and responsibilities. Parents who wish to sign their students out will need to do that in the office or they can do that ahead of the Dash and will be given a note from the office to give to the homeroom teachers indicating the child will leave with the parent. (This is similar to what we would do if a parent wanted to take their child home after a field trip.)
Fire Marshall Reminders--Here are things to consider that the Fire Marshall identifies as problem areas.
All hallways are kept clear of obstacles such as custodial hand carts, furnishings, boxes and equipment. No exit door or corridor can be blocked in any way that will prevent free egress/exit.
Boxes cannot be stored within 24” of the ceiling. Especially, no flammables or combustibles should be stored within 24” of the ceiling.
Custodial and maintenance room (including storage closets) doors must remain closed and locked at all times to prevent unauthorized entry. These rooms can contain hazardous chemicals and cannot be left open and unattended.
Do not block electrical breaker panels. A three-foot clearance must be maintained to allow access by first responders and maintenance mechanics, and to reduce fire hazards.
